18" wheels on a 98 C280?

Hey all, quick question. I like the ASA JH8 that TireRack has, but they only have the 17" but I saw some on ebay that are 18". Since I am a newb to this, is there anything I should know about changing to a tire that big from the standard 15"? Like will 18" even fit? What will it be like driving with them, any different? Thanks.

Bad idea.

Look at the big Tire Rack Upgrade Garage graphic just under the tabs on this page. Click it and that will be a good start.

like 17"s better overall on a 280,
but 18"s are probaly mandate down there in hotlanta.
just keep an eye on your et offsets..

Why do you like the 17" better on the 280? I really don't have a pref between 17" and 18" but they have 18" on ebay and 17" are on tirerack. Ok, I know this will sound stupid, but what are offsets?

17"s (for that size rig) because you can run a slightly taller tire (ex.225/45/17) giving better handling than a shorter (ex.225/40/18) more harsh ride.
if your just rolling around town and are looking for lots of chrome than 18"s are the way to go.. but the Ferrari at my work is running 17"s.
from a performance standpoint, it is better to have a little bit more rubber between you and the road.

et offset is the spacing between the wheel and the wheel hub; it is how a wheel sits in or out of the wheel well.
you want to remain close to the manufacturing specs in the design of the car,
but moving it in a little (higher), increases agility, while moving it out (lower), increases stability.
there is a sticky, and you can search all over the place for more detailed descrips.
good luck, keep us posted.
