+Sizing

Has anyone ever tried plus sizing theire tires? that's where you play around with the section height/width, to get a tire that is the same inflated height, to retain speedometer accuracy, but wider and stiffer for a better contact patch and stiffer sidewalls.

Ideal for the 14" Bundts, is 255/60/14 anyone tried this size of tire on a larger Benz before?

I dunno if 255s would fit would they?

At some point I want to go to the 15" rims and go up a size or two from the 195/70. And H rated tires with a bit less sidewall.

See, that's the thing with plus sizing, you'd think that 255 (because it's a big tread size) wouldn't fit, but being stretched over a 14 inch rim with only a 60" section height, the tire would only get maybe a half to an inch wider than the rim, and my SD looks kind of anemic with 195/70's, I think the 255/60/14 combination would look good, but I want tto know how it's going to drive. In my mind, having a tire like that it would be like a tank tread, and the car would roll onto it's sidewalls going around a corner.

I want nice handling tires, without having to go buy bigger wheels. I live in the prairies so not alot of cornering to be had here....

If you're talking about a W123, as I believe,

Anything wider than 215mm in 14" will rub on the tie rod ends. I had 225/60 X 14 on OE 6" Bundts (which have a ET30mm offset) on mine and they just barely touched the tie rod ends when the suspension was in some positions; then I got some 6 1/2" Bundts off a V8 S-class and put 7mm spacers under them to get clearance. Some people have put washers under the tie rod arms where they mount to the hub to gain a few mm clearance that way, but this requires a realignment and may alter the "Ackerman Effect" geometry just slightly. But if anyone wants to get more clearance by buying my stash of 15" X 7" AMG hammer rims, just send me a Personal Message.

OOps, now I see that it is a W126 that you have in mind. I don't know what clearance issues may exist on those, but the tie rod ends are less likely.
