My cousin has a basically new CLK 430, 5500 miles I think. He is getting 19" rims for it, so he is no longer going to be using the OEM AMG 17"'s. He is willing to sell me the whole set (wheels + tires) for $1100, to help offset the cost of the new ones.
My question is, will this setup on a 96C220? The car is unmodified suspension wise and sits at the stock height. Best wishes and take care, George Androulakis |

I am pretty sure it will fit
I believe the C and CLK and SLK class share all the same wheel offsets.

tire size
I too think the wheels will bolt on, but what I'm more concerned about it the tire size.....
I dont want to spend extra for new tires to get the wheels to work without rubbing or clearance issues. Best wishes and take care, George Androulakis |

I believe this is a staggered set up, ie the rear wheels/tyres are wider than those on the front. I think the fronts are 17 x 7.5J rims fitted with 225/25 R 17 tyres while the rears are 17 x 8.5J rims fitted with 245/40 R 17 tyres. You may have difficulties with the rears rubbing: the MB wheel catalogue states that bodywork modifications may be required when fitting the staggered set up.
I think the rear fenders need to be rolled. I know that the C43 had its fenders rolled at the factory. Blackmercedes, who contributes to this site and has 17" wheels, suggests that the wider rim will rub at the rear. He recommended fitting 7.5J rims front and back for those who do not wish to have their fenders rolled. Last time I was at the dealer I investigated this on three cars, a stock C-Class, a C200 fitted with the AMG wheel and tyre package, and a C43. The inner rear wheel arches had been rolled on the cars with the big wheels, but the difference was minimal: about 5-7mm I'd say. There is no visible difference to the exterior of the car. It has been suggested on this site that having the fenders rolled is cheap and easy, possible even a DIY job. Given the bargain price the set up is being offered to you, I'd go for it. As far as I can work out, fender rolling involves pushing the lip on the inside of the wheel arch flat. [Edited by jjrodger on 05-29-2001 at 07:41 AM]

Fender lip rolling involves rolling out the fender lip. Tools and video can be borrowed for free from tirerack, minus a deposit you leave that you get back when its returned and you pay shipping. The only problem is that there is a four month wait list for it.

Rolling the fenders occurs on the inside of the fender lip. The outside of the fender is not altered.
