380 SL Wheel Question...
Will 195 x 65 x 15 alloy wheels from a 300E fit my 1985 380SL?
Thanks. |

You gave a tire size --
you need to give the wheel size as diameter (15" is probably right there) plus width between the inside of the flanges on the bead seats, plus offset. On Mercedes rims this is usually moulded into the back of the wheel somewhere, usually covered by brake dust (asbestos on anything more than 10 years old). The diameter and width will be in inches, even on Euro rims, and the offset will be a number with the prefix "ET." For most Mercedes rims swapping, it is the ET number which is really important.

The offset of your sl should be ET25. Check the spare tire rim in the trunk to make sure. The rule of thumb I heard is that you can probably go 5 mm (ET 30) higher before needing spacers as you run the risk of having the rim hitting the suspension somewhere. I don't think very many 124 series rims will fit. You'll have better luck with rims from the 126 series which are ET 21 and 15" starting in 1986.
