Does anyone have a recommendation for a good re-chroming shop in the So. California area? I asked my mechanic and he said he didn't know of any re-chroming shops within the area.

The chroming in two of my wheels is beginning to flake-off. The flaking off has started at the point where a thoughtless tire dealer attached balancing weights to the outside perimeter of the rim. It is not bad now, but I know it will eventually get worse. Only two of the four wheels are bad.

How about a place that would take my old rims in exchange?

Thanks.

You might want to check with partsshop first. I know that performance parts has an exchange program for chorme factory wheels. You send your wheels in and they send back new chromed ones. However, if you are sending chromed wheels in as your core you are charged a much higher fee. If you are interested, I have the performance parts catalogue at home and could get the number for you.

I have chrome wheels on my car and they are also starting to flake. After reading various posts here, it seems that chrome is not they way to go as far as durability. I plan to wait until I can afford to get four non chrome wheels. To give you an idea of the maintenance required to maintain chrome wheels properly, performance parts requires you to wax the wheels twice a month in order for the warranty they offer to stay valid.

I just replaced one of my rims at Capital. Their website is http://www.capitalwheels.com and they are in Gardena. I paid around $120 and that was because my trade in was chrome.

Try Globe Tire and motorsports in Culver City on the corner of LA Cienega and Venice Blvd.

Thats where my dad got his AMG Wheels from. They are currently getting me a replacement Center cap for my wheels, and having it chromed for me.

thank you for the tip...

The Lakers are playing, even as I write this. But my daughter won't let me watch because she says I jinx them. Right now they are leading by 2 on OT...anyhow. Thanks for the recommendations. I will call both dealers and see what kind of a deal I can work out. I had thought about getting newer rims for my car. But I've decided to keep my car as stock as possible. Thanks again.

P.S. As of this writing the Lakers are up by 5. I can listen to game, but I can't watch it....

PSS: I sneaked a peek at the TV. The 76's began to score on the Lakers. I avert my eyes from the TV. Too late, Lakers lose in OT. My daughter won't talk to me now. I guess I should just go out outside, peel the old chrome from my wheels and re-chrome them myself...I am not allowed near a TV for the rest of the playoff series :-(

Discount Tires

How about a place that would take my old rims in exchange?

For about $120, Discount Tire exchanges a standard MB alloy wheel for a MB chromed one.
