New Tires soon

I wore out my Michelin X-Radials in about 23K miles. They have an 80K warranty... haha. For a while the insides were wearing out until i changed my upper control arms and got an alignment. After that and for the majority of wear, they wore evenly though with some feathering on the outside edges.

Instead of these tires I'm going for the H-rated Michelin Energy MXV4. They have a lower wear rating but I think they'll be better for the W123, the x-radials sidewalls are just too soft and I can feel them roll over, give up and squeel like 4 pigs when ever I take a corner just mildly spirited.

Im getting them at costco since there's a $60 off sale. Either I get 60 bucks off or even more since I only got 20K miles out of these things.

Actually one of my X-radials blew because of a screw in the tire. I replaced it with a 50 dollar T-rated BFG Premier Touring which is apparently a Costco tire... so that's my spare now. Anyone know about that tire? It's got huge, deep tread which seems like it would be good for wet weather.

I think I would rather have the Mishkies though... any input would be much appreciated.

Seems I heard a rumor that some of the MXV4 tires are being discontinued? Make sure you buy something that can be easily replaced so you don't wind up driving on a mismatched set. I got this tip when re-tiring one of my parents' cars, and I wound up going with a different but equivalent Michelin model.

Sorry your wear was so poor. Dad had about 50k on his last set of MXV4's on an S-class, with miles left -- he just wanted new rubber before a couple thousand mile road trip. I think Michelin makes great tires.

Cheers, John

My dad has the X-radials for maybe 50K miles and they still look new with a lot of tread left. I did drive them hard though. His Honda Accord is a good 500-600 lbs lighter as well with less body roll so the sidewalls aren't worked as hard.
I did end up going for the MXV4, they'll be available for a long time.

THey ended up taking 60 bucks off of each MXV4 because of the poor wear on the X-radials. So i got 4 of em for 160 bucks. Not bad... Costco kicks ass sometimes. I figured they wouldnt do anything with the warranty since I never had them rotated at Costco but they didn't care.

The 91H MXV4s are a vast improvement over the 90S X-radials... the sidewalls are so much stronger. The ride is more comfortable as well and quieter. Cornering is much better now, and body roll is a lot less.

Recommend H-rated tires on all W123s.

This is intesting. I thought we couldn`t get tires at costco for the 123`s.
things I have been reading here on some of the posts. the guy at costco
even told me they don`t carry the proper rating tire. but then I have the
205-70-14. maybe if you are still running the 195`s then I don`t know,
or maybe the 15 inch?
I have had good luck with the Big-O Legacy tires. we have 69400 miles
on them so far, but are about due for replacement. can almost see the air.

Nope running stock size 195/70/14. No problem finding tires that size. Maybe in 5 or 10 years, but still pretty common. Why are you running 205/70? Sidewall on the 195 is tall enough!

Mxv4

I put MXV4's on my c280 and I am not happy with them at all. They wore quickly (30k ish miles) and I don't drive them hard at all. They handle OK (not great), and the ride noise is OK (not great)... but for the same $ I expect more - especially from Michelins. I talked to the guy at Costco and he told me the model was being discontinued by Michelin. It's just my opinion, but you might want to steer clear of the MXV4.

Im likin the MXV4's a lot so far. The old tires were very crappy handlers compared to these.

Costco's like a big warehouse kinda store. I dunno what Sam's Club is, I've heard it's like Walmart.
