Anyone,

I'm purchasing new tires this week for my car (1989 190E 2.6). My reseach led me to the Michelin X One tires, which are not too prices.

Has anyone used these tires? Are they good all weather tires?

Thanks...

The X-ones are okay, the Energy MXV4 Plus tires are much better. Yes they do cost, but you get your money's worth and then some. Without beating the dead horse too much...everything your car does (acceleration, braking, turing, etc) depends on those 4 smallish contact patches. Make the most of them. If you figure how much a tire costs extra (per mile or per month) it isn't very much given the extra gains you get from getting a tire like the Mich Energy MXV4 Plus vs say...Conti's.

Just my opinion...Lee

Lee is defintitely right here. The X one is a long life tire, but feels completely numb on the road. It's like trying to guide marshmallows down the road. It might be ok for a commuter tire if you're looking for long life, but life's too short for that. If you don't want to spend the money for the MXV, then get one of the high quality Japanese tires. They perform and last quite well. Good luck, allen.

A new tire to consider is the Michelin Pilot XGT H4. They are H-rated, and perform better then the MXV4, plus have a 400 treadwear rating which is as much as the Energy MXV4 Plus. They are cheaper then the MXV4 by a good $10-$20 in most sizes.

I think the best deal going for this application is the Toyo Proxes H4. They're very reasonable, but have excellent characteristics all around. I've run several sets of toyos, to include the H4s, and have been very impressed.

I've driven the H4's and am not very impressed. They might handle marginally better than the MXV4 Plus but they seem to do worse in the wet (hydroplaning) and they are noisy as hell vs the MXV4's. They also give up ride quality to the MXV4's. BTW, the Energy MXV4 Plus has a UTQG rating of 440 or so. It is the latest generation of the MXV4 family who's previous UTQG was 340. Tirerack needs to update their info.

Hope this helps...Lee

93 190 2.6

Michelin XGT H4 205x60?x15

They work REAL well - quiet, solid and with a square-ish profile are very predictable and stable through corners.

I got them for $72ea at America's Tire (west coast), mounted, balanced with balancing for life and free replacement (v. "pro-rated compensation) for failure.

If you're in snow country though - forget it. Strictly a three-season tire.

I've tried the XGT4, not XGT H4, and they work quite well. They have lasted a long time also - approx. 65,000 km with little wear.

I have Toyo X10 snow tires which I love. The weather up North here can be brutal and they have never let me down! I guess crushed walnut bits do help...

Just ordered a set of X1 from tirerack.com.

I've used various models of Michelins over the years (since the 1970s) and if you do a lot of highway driving and zooming around exit/entrance ramps at 60-70mph is not part of your driving routine then X1 is worth considering.
I guess it depends on your driving style and skills. My last set was XH4, also a high mileage tire, and they served me quite well as a four season tire and never felt uneasy in wet conditions or the occasional zooming around a ramp.
The salesman at tirerack.com nearly chided me for wanting the X1s and suggested the MXV4 but I politely declined. I doubt that I'll be going over the 115mph speed rating of the X1 tires, which he thought was too low...
