205-60/15 vs 205-55/15 on 82 300D

I too an about to change from 14" to 15" wheels and tire on my 82 300D.
From what I have read and been told form others and Tire Rack is that the 205-60/15 is what I need to go back with.
My question is the the tire that I want to try only comes in the 205-55/15 size. Will this 55 seires tire still work on my 82 300D?? Thanks for any thoughts and comments. Tom 82 300D Alpharetta GA.

As far as I know, what is on it now is 195-70/14. I think this is original size, but I dont know for sure.

With the 205/55, your speedometer is going to be off by 3.5% (faster than you're going). The overall diameter is .8in shorter, which in addition to the speedo rating also means it's going to revolve more times than the original tires at the same speed. If you do a lot of highway driving, the car's going to be working harder to go higher speeds. If you don't do much highway driving and don't mind the speedo difference, it's not terrible. You'll get a bit better acceleration at the lower speeds with the shorter tire.
215/55 would be closer if you want a 55 tire.

Thanks for the info Tank. Sounds like some good advice.
No I really dont want 55 tires but if they would work with out rubbing on any thing or killing my acclieration I might try them. Anyway, after your advice Im going to do a bit more checking to deside tire size would be best for me. Thanks Tom 82 300D

205/60/15 is the correct size for a 15" wheel on a W123. Of course only if you use the original 15" bundt wheels for just about $2,500. :-)

Best regards.

No problem. There shouldn't be any rubbing issues as the tire isn't that much wider than stock and will be shorter. Acceleration is actually better with the shorter tire.

But seriously, the right tires size for the 15 inch W123 wheels is 205/60/15.

Best regards,

Eric

What about 215/60/R15 w/ 8" wide rims???

Hey all,

I just purchased these rims on eBay:

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&sspagename=ADME%3AB%3AEOIBSAA%3AUS%3A11&viewitem=&item=150151090747

They are 215/60/R15 with 8" wide rims. I'm trying to figure out if they're going to fit on my 82' 300D sedan.

Will the 215 tires rub? Will the bolt diameter and spacing work?

Any info would be much appreciated!!!
