I have an 89 190E 2.6 with Summit Mega Torques tires in rear. The driver side is pretty normal looking but the passenger tire is more flat looking on the edges. It looks like it has worn down to the bottom of the tread but the tread in the middle is fine on both. Could it be tire pressures causing the tires to track wrong? What psi should I put? would it be better around 34 psi or higher? The car says for over 100 mph to put 37 psi...I get some high speed shaking up around 70-80 and around 90 and higher is really shaky. Also would a set of 205's be alot more grippy than the 185's? I have a hard ride...could a different set of tires make bumps better than these?

Working on the notion that the alingment has been checked and is okay then I'd say that if you are wearing the shoulders (edges, not center) of your front tires then you are cornering in a more sporting fashion. Switching to a wider/stickier tire will help that as would aligning the car to Sportline specs. A swap to 205/60/15 performance tire would make for much sharper handling. First I would make double sure all the suspension parts are in good shape and the alignment checks out.
Hope this helps...Lee |
