Not sure . . . .

The original tires for my '94 E320 cpe (below) were 195/65R15.

I wanted an oversize tire maybe even a '215' but was advised against it since they would rub when turning. So I settled for "plus 0" upgrade, P205/60R15

As it turned out, they just fit perfectly and did not rub when turning but was very close! That's whats in the picture.

I wouldn't go any wider than 205....E420s had relatively narrow 6.5" wide rims. Further, any wider and they'd likely rub.

I put my mustang 225/60/15 on my 420 for the time being and they fit well on the rear but look a bit big. I am getting 205's but I wanted 215/55's.

I ran 215/60R15's with the stock rims on my 300E for years and years without any problems. Rubbing wasn't an issue, and while the tire sidewalls do seem a bit bulgy for the narrow rim, the actual tread width seems appropriate for the car - the stock 195's are way too narrow IMHO.

Just recently, I transitioned to Dunlop SP5000's in a 205/60R15 size, and the three things I noticed most were:

-slightly reduced steering effort.
-improved dry traction.
-reduced wet grip. (this one I can't figure out, although I do drive a bit more aggressively than I used to..)

Thanks for the response everyone.
It was just a thouhgt but I had planed on gettin 205 and that is what I have done. I just wanted to know if it could be done. I just ordered 205/60/15 Yoko AVS db from tire rack but they are on back order and won't arive for a while August. But its worth the wait.
Thanks everyone.
