Michelin Pilot Primacy any good?

Looking at some more tame touring tires for the SDL. They are VERY expensive, $167 each. But everyone says Michelin are the best. Has anyone used them?

I don't recognize that name but have always been happy with michelin.

putting very wide tires on that car seems risky to me. The camber changes will be tougher on a wide tire than on the size the suspension was designed for.

But it will look really nice.

The narrower tires are a lot cheaper too.

I don't believe the Pilot Primacy is a tame touring tire. At that price, it's probably a performance tire of some sort. What's the treadwear guarantee? That will tell you right off.........

Harmony and Hydroedge are their typical touring tires.........really don't need much more on a 150hp diesel.

240 AAA, Z speed rated.

They also have the Michelin Pilot HX MXM4, which is a touring tire. $158 and the tread rating is 300 A A. I have heard a lot of bad reviews of this tire, and they are on my sisters car. They have no traction in the rain.

The Pilot Primacy is classified as a "grand touring summer" tire. It seems to be geared towards larger European cars like the S class 7 series ect.

They also have the:
Michelin Pilot XGT Z4 which is called a "Ultra High Performance All-Season" tire with a treadwear of:
Treadwear: 300
Traction: A
Temperature: A300 A A

$151

Michelin Pilot Sport A/S
Treadwear: 400
Traction: AA
Temperature: A400 AA A

$192!

That's a performance tire. It won't last more than 30K miles.........if that.

For reference, the Hydroedge has an 800 treadwear rating........over 3X this tire.

The Z rating should also tip you off............you really need that on the SDL???

My new car came with Pilot Primacy.
I am very impressed with them ( ride, handling, wear, etc ) and believe me, I am NOT easy to impress .

As for the X-GT4 and the Pilot A/S, had them both and was NOT impressed by either one of them.

You can buy them at The Tirerack.

Yeah but I want the dealer to mount them. They use the best balancer, and they know how to alighn it. The local shop that I trust not to screw the car up can't balance them, and cannot alighn this thing. I would never in a million years take my car to one of the chain stores, they are all morons.

The dealer has been sending me coupons, $99 alighnment, 10% off ect. I'll print out what they will cost from Tirerack and go get a price from them. They may decide they want to sell me tires and price them accordingly.

I know they charge $10 each to balance, I just don't know what they would charge for mounting.

I know what you mean. I am thinking about buying from Tirerack, mounting at my trusted Indy, but then going to the dealer for fine tuning. The dealer freely admits that they can not compete on the price of the tires. My Indy is great, but I am pretty sure they will only do static balance, which historically is not good enough for my temperamental 1995 E320. In my experience, these W124 cars seem to need very careful balance and alignment or they feel terrible.
