Tire Warranty Worth It?
I need to buy new tires for my 03 CLK 500. Do you guys think the Tire Warranty at Discount Tire is worth purchasing or is it just a waste of money?

The last set of tires I bought I got the warranty on. About a year after I got them, I ran over a big bolt or some other type of scrap on the highway and tore the side out of one. They replaced it at no charge. I decided it was worth what I paid for the warranty just for that one time.

If you are lucky and the tire is not repairable then the warranty is worth it because they will replace it. Personally I haven't been so lucky and had "road hazards" which only damaged the tires so they were only obliged to repair them for free not replace them.
I won't drive on a patched or plugged tire so for me the choice was buy a new one anyway...so consider that in your decision making. Most of the time you'll pick up a nail or screw which will be "fixable"...do you really want to ride on a repaired tire? Take the money for 4X warranty and apply it towards possibly having to replace one tire during their life...it's usually about a 50/50 risk.

Yes, if you're buying new tires. I change up my wheels so often that I haven't gotten to the point of buying new tires...for the benz. Now on my wife's wagon I got a warranty...but not on the SS. Why? With a 396 stroker, 6-speed and 4.56 gears in the rear the tires don't last long enough.
I've run on tires with patches, plugs and even a nail until the tires hit the wear bars. I've never had a problem with any of them. Unless you're planning on autocrossing or doing high-speed runs I see no remote issue with it. I've never heard of a documented tire failure due to a bad patch or plug so I don't worry about it.

I ran over a small paper sack in a rainstorm once, I saw it and failed to dodge it as I took off at a traffic light. It turns out it contained a screwdriver bit, a long one that gave me an immediate flat. my spare was also flat so I carried the tire to a nearby shop (a garage I have used before actually) because I was miles from America's Tires. They plugged the tire but I wanted a patch on the inside which they said they couldn't do for whatever reason then I took the tire to America's a few days later and they said the plug was too large it might blow out and the cert would cover a new tire, these were Yokohamas V-rated and about $110 per tire so boy I was glad I bought certs. Actually I recall this was the second time I had a replacement under warranty. It all depends on your luck I guess.

A warranty is an insurance policy.
Know any insurance companies losing money? Take the amount and put it in an interest-bearing account. Your "emergency" fund, as it were. One assumes those purchasing warranties NEVER go to casinos or bet on the Super Bowl!

If you're like me and have 17 inch AMG wheels, 225 series Z-rated Michelins at $190 a pop, then $12.50 a tire is worth it IMO. Plus, at Discount tire, where I buy my tires (can you say FREE rotate and balance every 3k??) they will typically give you a price break on the tires if you buy the waranty. Think about it. These are commissioned salespeople. Help them out by buying a little peace of mind, and it will probably help YOU out again on the bottom line.

yes that warranty is a life saver. Run over a bolt they fix it for free. i had run over a huge bolt about 3/4", how it actually penetrated the tire i was puzzled but they can sure save money.
