How do you remove the bar codes on new tires?
I had 4 new Michelin tires put on my vehicle about a year ago. I noticed that they each had a bar code on the side but I figured it was just a sticker. Upon closer inspection I noticed that they are painted on. I figured they would just wear off with time and exposure to the elements, but they are still the same as they were a year ago. I even tried taking a pressure washer within an inch of each of the bar codes and they still look like they did a year ago. Does anyone have any suggestions on how to remove these bar codes? Were they supposed to be installed so that they are on the inside and don't detract from the appearance?

I bet you the tires were installed backwards..( ya know white walls in)
other than that only way I know is to sand them off(which I do not reccomend as the white on the barcode might just be a whitewall [ white walls have a 5" band around the tire and is covered up except for maybe an inch or two) Last edited by TheDon; 10-11-2007 at 11:14 PM. |

Bah, I hate those. My tires had the ever so pretty pink dots that are half an inch in diameter. I took a brass bush and a little degreaser to them. A little elbow work makes them disappear. You could try the same thing for your barcodes.
Okay, to be honest, three of my tires still have them. It was getting dark and raining. My arms were also tired. It does work, though.
