Help out a girl with a Tire and Rim question ...PLEASE

I need some winter tires for my 300sl , I'm taking off my Lorinser Rims for the winter , I don't even drive the car very often in the winter, my question is ?? I have a chance to buy some rims with tires for a good price , the rims and tires came off a 1987 300SDL , I need to know if they will fit my car without any rubbing or without affecting anything , I was told that they are not the original rims for the 1987 300 SDL .......... i have enclosed a pic if that helps .... please respond ASAP , Thank You

Those look like W140 class wheels (8 hole). Measure the offset of your wheels vs the 8 holes.

I suspect you are in luck. The offset for BOTH the R129 (yours)
http://www.tirerack.com/wheels/results.jsp?autoMake=Mercedes-Benz&autoModel=300SL&autoYear=1991&autoModClar=

and the W126 that this car needs for these is the same 23mm) and IF the size is 16x7.5 is the same, they ought to fit right on, without the need for hubcentric spacers which I don't like, because of where they put the load on the wheels.

eIt looks like those 8 hole wheels (which are the original style for your car, the R129) are the original style for your car.

They are NOT the original style for the 1987 300SDL, they were added on.
But, it looks like the dimensions for the '87 SDL on the same wheel would they would fit, and are the same. You think? Close enough as makes no difference?

http://www.tirerack.com/wheels/results.jsp?autoMake=Mercedes-Benz&autoModel=300SDL&autoYear=1987&autoModClar=

I like that style of wheels (those 8 hole chromed version of the R129/W140) a lot, and have ordered/paid a set of them for my 1991 560SEC from Tire Rack.

How much would they cost?

As a point of comparison, similar ones (chromed) cost me $1053 for a set of NEW ASA knock off versions of these even WITHOUT TIRES!!!

If these are offered to you for under that, and are not rusty, bent or kerbed, used with good winter tires on them, you probably are looking at a good deal.

If they would fit, with just bolting on, then buy them. Try to have all lug bolts included, and center caps too. I had to buy center caps off ebay, but it was under $30 to the door, from some seller in Sarasota Fla.

A real girl

Look for a stamping on the front of the wheel. This website will allow you to check your wheel size/offset against the other wheel. Girls can even do it

When will you have your new wheels, Jim? You'll have to put up a picture of them when you get them put on.

I don't like staggered wheels without a good reason, do you have one?

I am no expert but would not recommend staggered wheels for a 1991 6cylinder 300SL especially for the winter.

Do you like the looks that much, are they staggeringly CHEAP, are you going to drag race with them, or is there some other compelling reason to risk messing up the steering geometry that was engineered originally into the car, getting a flat tire, and having to put a mismatched tire opposite it, and if you are seeking winter tires, doing EXACTLY the wrong thing by putting WIDER tires on the rear (drive) wheels, which is EXACTLY the wrong thing to do if you want better traction and control in the winter. IMO

I would forget all about these, why do you want them?

These are them
http://www.tirerack.com/wheels/WheelCloseUpServlet?target=runWheelSearch&initialPartNumber=US4625C&wheelMake=ASA&wheelModel=Type+8& wheelFinish=Chrome+Plated&showRear=no&autoMake=Mercedes-Benz&autoModel=560SEC&autoYear=1991&autoModClar=&filterSize=All&filterFinish=All&filterSpecial=false &filterBrand=All&filterNew=All&sort=Brand

I bought and paid for them on August 29th, and they were supposed to be ready by October 20 which is bad enough.

Yesterday I was informed by the Tire Shop (who I paid) and also Tire Rack, that they will not be available till November 22 at the earliest

Reason for that is that they are a special order and are manufactured in South Korea, and have not been manufactured yet.

Neither Tire Rack nor the local Tire Shop can do anything to speed that up, but both of them sympathise with my plight.

BUT, I WANT THEM ON THE CAR BEFORE CHRISTMAS, is that so much to ask!!!?? <pounds fist on table>

Muy bueno, Jimbo. Nice.

You want them on the SEC before you go over the river and through the woods to Grandmother's house?

The winter tires are 15 inch rims

and they are not chrome ......................................................................................Four 15" Mercedes Wheels in very good condition. Were used on a 300SDL. Includes mounted snows.

Make an offer.

No one can tell you for sure whether they will fit without knowing what size they are, or at least what car they came off of. You need to find out the size of the original wheels on your car, this is in your owner's manual and stamped on the inside of the wheel. You need to know the diameter (presumably 16 inch), the width (7.5"?) and the offset in mm. Then you need to get the same info for the other wheels, which again would be stamped on the inside of the wheels. You should be fine on bolt pattern - both should be 5 bolts x 112 mm apart. A reasonable seller should be willing to get the info for you. Ask the tire size while you're at it.

I have 16inch tires on my car now , but the tires are bad and one of the rims is bent , so this is the reason why I need new ones for this winter , and I have a chance of buying these rims :

((((( but they are 15 inch )))))

the rims and tires came off a 1987 300SDL , I need to know if they will fit my car without any rubbing or without affecting anything , I was told that they are not the original rims for the 1987 300 SDL .......... i have enclosed a pic if that helps .... please respond ASAP , Thank You

If they are 15 inch wheels they must have come off of an E-class. I would be hesitant to put 15 inch rims on a car that came originally with 16 inch wheels, but you can do it if everything else fits, but you still need to know more - tire size, offset.
