Will 190d wheels fit a w124 300d?
I'm looking at 165/85 87H wheels for my 300d, they are cheap. They came off of a 190d and come with the tires. I have no spare for my 300d so I'm considering buying this set. But... will they fit?

Not sure, but you may want to search the tires and wheels forum.
No doubt someone has tried it before.

Are they 15" rims?
I may have a trade for you if so......

Yes. Any tire with the proper bolt pattern will fit. With some modifications. Without modifications? No. Anyways that is a smaller tire than stock on a W123... Smaller car..

To follow up... I just bought a set of 4 190E tires and wheels. The tires are about an 1" and a half shorter than the 124 300d's tires.
Is it safe to ride on the smaller tires?

Not really and that is what I was trying to get at. They are smaller.

Early 190D models had 14" wheels, while later ones had 15". They look completely identical. Mine came with 14" but I installed some 15" from a W124. That worked fine since I was increasing the diameter (more internal clearance) and since I bought new 15" tires with the same overall circumference as the old 14" tires.
I read elsewhere that there are multiple almost-identical versions of the 15" wheels used on the 201/124, some of which may not clear the brake calipers on certain models. Below is the quote I am referring to (info. from Marshall Booth on another list). Quote:

Starting '86 or '87, 190 (201) wheels have the backside carved out to fit the larger calipers on the later year 201 cars. You would probably need that for a 124.
124 wheels are also a significantly different offset than the 201 wheels. 124 wheels are fairly easy to find, I'd get 124 wheels.
