Is this possible? Or just retarded?

My friend has basically offered to give me a set of wheels he has. I have a 1993 400E. The wheels are 19x8.5. I've heard you shouldn't go bigger than 17 on the w124. I need new wheels (wider) and tires, and for this deal its too good not to look into. Can anyone offer me advice on what to do? Can I tweak the suspension? Is it even possible to fit 19"s onto a W124? If I get a body kit will that get rid of the rubbing issue if I get the right type? Is there a right type for this sort of operation?

Essentially, if I wanted to make this work, what would I have to do and what sort of costs would I be looking at?

Roll the fenders, dont lower it and dont drive it fast over big bumps and youll be ok

Its possible but it may not look right on the car. Rear ends on W124's tend to sag with a heavier load ie: heavy luggage in the truck or passangers in the rear.
My 16" CLK wheels scrape the fenders on my 300D with the lowered suspension so i cant imagine what 19"s would do I can hardly imagine them with the suspension left stock!!

Ive seen 19"s put on a 500E but they have flared fenders and a rear self leveling suspension that would work with them well.

Hmm....free wheels? Take 'em! Couldn't hurt to try. The most important info is the ET# and the tire size. If you're running rubber bands (25 or 30 series tires) you can get away with a lot that your normally wouldn't on other cars.

A 255/30/19 is about the same size you'd need for a speedo match...but they start around $200 and the price goes up quick. Then again, I don't think there's a such thing as cheap 19's. Heck, It'd only take you a few minutes to drive over and check fitment. I'd try it out for sure. I wouldn't worry about having to roll the fenders or do some trimming either. Have fun with it!
