vw/ mb wheel interchange?

I have seen folks here say that some vw wheels will fit a benz. I am looking for some very lightweight 15" wheels to fit racing tires on my 123 280e autocrosser. Can anybody tell me what vw wheels will fit and with what spacers, please?

Aren't most new Audi's and VW's 5x112? I don't know of a source with all the info, but I am curious about the same thing myself. Are you looking for 16's 17's or some other size?

A quick search pulled this link up: http://www.allsprings.com/catalog/vw-golf-v-hr-trak--wheel-spacers.htm

and in the spacer detail it says: "Fits Jetta V, Golf V, Eos, and 1998+ Passat with 5x112mm Bolt Pattern."

This link: http://www.optionimports.com/5055571.html
Tells me that the Audi's have a 57.1mm center bore. The W123's have a 66.5mm center bore.

I checked my "files" and found that the 1010tires link still works: http://www.1010tires.com/hubrings.asp

Looking at the numbers though I'm going to have to say that you can't do it...because our hubs are a wider diameter than the Audi/VW's...unless you get a set of the Audi wheels milled out to fit our hubs.

LMK if you get any different information though!

If you're thinking of the milling the hub route, this link might be helpful:

If you were thinking 15's, this just might be your best bet as most of the Audi wheels appear to have very thin raised hubs that don't look like they'd be good for milling.

and here's one you could pick up to experiment with: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/AUDI-A-4-ULTRA-SPORT-15-WHEEL-RIM-OEM_W0QQitemZ130187098022QQihZ003QQcategoryZ43955QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

I am looking for 15" wheels. around 10# If I can find them. the center hole would be a prob in front. with spacers the back will not be a prob.

The problem is that the H&R spacers are hubcentric to the car and wheel though.

Oh, yeah. Well I could deal with that I think.

I would be concerned about the hubcentric mount of Mercedes rims, since the bulk of the stress of staying on the hubface is via that hub flange, not the lugbolts. I wonder if the application would be better suited for using properly spec'd wheel studs.

That is possible. It is for my autocrosser, so fine balance is not as critical as it would be on a road car since most of the time I am running in second gear, and I check them for tightness regularly.

If you're looking for lightweight MB wheels, I believe the older (1998/99) OEM CLK rims come in at under 13lb each. They were 16" diameter, not 15's.

I will definately attest to the lightness of these wheels...WOW. I love 'em. If you are looking for a set...drop me a line.

I think the Audi wheels could be easily made to work. I also agree that hubcentric is a must. I get all my lugbolts from http://www.radusadirect.com/ and they're TuV certified if that helps.

That wheel needs a little something...ah, that's better!

are you offering the 16" benz wheels or the audi wheels? I will have to check availability of 16" tires for autocross.

Sorry for my poor wording in my last post. I am referring to the lightness of the CLK wheels. If you're seriously looking for a 10# wheel I'm thinking you'll have to go to forged aluminum and shell out more for a single wheel, than you can buy my CLK's for... I'm thinking I want to run my BBS RS wheels

Just won this: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&ih=003&sspagename=STRK%3AMEWN%3AIT&viewitem=&item=130189501859&rd=1

So once it arrives I'll get it bored out and see how it looks. I'll get a weight on it too.
