Any recommendations for 124's? This summer I may be getting some 16" 8-hole rims when I get some money, so therefore new tires. My Michelin Energy MXV4+ tires have about 40k on them now, so they're starting to get close.

Try Goodyear Comfort Treads

I heard they reduce noise by 10% or something, and they absorb more road impacts when driving for a smoother ride.

I bought the Michelin MXV4, and though they are a nice tire, they only give like, 40,000 miles, and they're $150 each. I wish I would have gone with the Goodyears, 80,000 mile tire, they'll pro-rate it because they tell you up front that you'll never get 80k miles from them. So go 60k and get a discount on your next set.

Just found the reciept, they were $224. I did have to cram the tires into my 300cd (and new rims too) and take it to a tire shop for mounting though.

The goodyear assurance Comfortread is a great tire too, another car in the family has them and they are quiet and smooth.

I put a set of these on my 84td 6 months ago and already put 10,000 miles on them. Hands down the most well specked out piece of rubber you can stretch over the rims of these kind of cars.

I had Yokohama Avid Touring on my '82 and '85 300TD, in one case replacing Michelins which the PO had worn out, and in the other case replacing Goodyears that were horrible, hard, slippery and unsafe despite the receipt which verified that the PO had installed them only 20k and 2 years earlier.

I had an 87 300SDL which had old Michelins and took a gamble on Kumho Ecsta HP4 (I think), which I thought were an exceptional tire. Very smooth and quiet, but I think the reason I chose the Yokos subsequently for the w123s was that the Kumhos weren't available. However, they weren't that much more expensive, so it didn't really matter. I'm a big Yokohama fan these days, and will put them on the Yaris when the time comes to ditch the crappy goodyears on there now.

I try to buy sectionally molded tires, whatever the brand. I believe there was a thread on this distinction a few years back if you use the search- might have been in the wheels/tires section.
