What tires are you running on your SDL?

I just bought a 1986 SDL and I noticed (too late) that Michelins have sidewall cracks It is too bad as they handle pretty well and have a lot of tread left.

What are you guys running on your SDLs out there?

I am planning on getting a set of Blizzaks for the winter so snow traction is not a big concern of mine, but wet traction and tread life is.

Thanks for the help!

I have Michellin Hydro Edges on my SD. Not an SDL but I'm pretty sure they make them in 205s or 215s. They work really well in the rain and are good in the snow too. I bought them two years ago and maybe 10,000 miles later, I cannot see any change in tread depth.

What are you looking to do? I am a very spirited/aggressive driver.

I Have the Kumho KH11s on the car (discontinued) and I really loved them. They have about 27500 miles on them and are about gone. I bought them knowing they wouldn't last long but man did they handle well! For 49 dollars each, who gives a *****?

I will be replacing them in the next month, will either go with the Bridgestone Turanza RE960 Pole Position or the Turanza Serenity. Price differeince is about 20 bucks more for the Serenity, but I am still deciding whats going to handle better.

The Michelin MXV4 Primacy is always a good staple choice for Mercedeses, good but does not have the agressive handling that I want and have with the KH11.

My black SDL has Continental Procontacts, good overall touring tire but doesnt corner like I want it to. The car had Hydroedges when I bought it. Good tire, but very hard compound. Lasts forever but not good for very aggressive driving.

Tires

I have Mich Exalto A/S on now and they are good handling and comfortable - and supposed to last 50, 000 miles. I have 10,000 miles on them now and they don't look worn. They are super in heavy rain and only fair on ice. I went to 215/65 - 15 size. "R" rated. Check Tire Rack.

I used to buy on Michelins, but gave up as the relative price differentials continued to increase ... so, last tires on my 91 SDL, are Kumhos ... I think KH-16s - almost no weight required to balance them, feel very much like the Michelins. No issues. Second set - first was discontinued, but I got about 40K out of them at about 1/3 the cost.

Thanks for the tips !I was thinking about either Mich or Conti, but nowI am going to seriously think about Kumho.

What do you run in the winter? I always liked Blizzaks, but is there a better deal out therewith the same snow performance?

Our weather in Fairfax County not as bad as yours ... have used Kumho's year round - no issues out of the ordinary - definitely could use snows some time, but not worth the cost of having two sets.

BTW, I also used a set of Kumho's on an Explorer - no issues there, either.

Key is to find a place that will install them for reasonable price!
