Tallest tires on a w126 ??????

I have 17 inch wheels on my 83 300SD, currently I have 235 45 17 tires, and the ride is a bit harsh. also, I'd like to effectively make the make the ratios taller so that the engine won't rev so high on the highway.

I am hoping to add about 2-3 inches to the overall diameter, something in the area of a 225 60 17.

What is the tallest tire that has ever been fitted to a w126 without any issues with rubbing? doesn't have to be 17 inch , just want to know the size, I'll figure it out.

Why are you putting bigger heavier tires and wheels when you are concerned with how it rides?

Low profile tires typically ride harder than the standard issue ones, don't they?

The car has 17" wheels. It needs tires. I want a smoother ride and lower RPMs on the highway. larger diameter / taller tires will achieve this.

YES.

So lets get this discussion out of the way.

The question is: What are the tallest tires that can be fitted to a w126?

I think Brian Carlton might have an idea about how tall you can go.

Doesn't increasing the outside diameter of your wheels affect things like speedometer/odometer accuracy?

YES it does, but obviously I don't care.

So, once gain, if you have experience with putting larger diameter tires on your W126, please let me know exactly what size tire you used. that's all I ask.
