adapters and spacers question.. safe to go 25mm?

Hello all,
I may be getting some Japanese rims. They are quite rare so the size doesn't really fit my car too well (stud pattern being different).
So the question is, is it safe to install an adapter (from 5x114.3 to 5x112) in 15mm thickness, or even 25mm? I'll have them machined in 6061 or 7075 alum...

Any ideas?

Cheers

This does not sound like a good idea to me.

I cant see any problem with this... There is no real difference between doing this and using the bolt on type spacers, which are commonly used.
I'd prefer to use a thicker spacer just for peace of mind - 25mm is perfectly fine. You can get the bolt on spacers much thicker than that, like 75mm+

Cheers,
Ben.

Cheers for the replies. Unfortunately my car is really offset sensitive so I can only go 20mm max at the front. Is it still safe? 25mm for sure at the back though. Cheers!

Trying to make an adapter like this seems pretty foolhardy unless you are a structural engineer and an expert fabricator.

If the adapter breaks at the wrong time (that would be under hard cornering, no doubt) you could be in real trouble.

I have done a great many things with cars and rigging things up but this is not one I would touch.

Cheers Tom. The adapter will be done by a professional. I am a VW guy and I've seen people run adapters to fit Porsche rims with no problems. In fact, H&R supplies those adapters. I'll probably use material of equal grade, if not better. I do share your concern though, not sure whether 20mm is too much (or too little)..

Cheers.
