r171 and w203 wheels compatible?

Wanting to purchase some 06 SLK wheels for my 06 C350. Based on what I know, they will work, but I want to make sure. Definitive answer? Thanks!

Check the wheels for the obvious...diameter and width...and then check the offset (ET) especially.

Compare this with the following chart of approved sizes for Mercedes vehicles and the approving authority.

thanks.....that's a great chart, never seen that before.

I know the sizes are fine, but the wheels are not local so I don't know the offset, and the seller is slow to respond to questions. I found another fitment chart that says MB approved offset for 16x7 is 31 (mine), and supposedly from what I found on the web, the offset for the 17x7.5s/8.5s on the SLK is 30 front and 37 rear. According to the chart you provided, offset of 35-38 is permissable on a 203, even though the chart I found says 31 is MB-approved.

The offset number varies according to the width of the wheel (see calculator below);

http://www.1010tires.com/WheelOffsetCalculator.asp

In addition, a specialist tuner (AMG, Brabus, etc) may approve a different offset to create a change in handling. For example, to achieve much more responsive steering for a sport application with wide low profile as opposed to standard Mercedes more stable and predictable steering for stock wheels.

I mentioned before to note the approving authority. The authorities in the previous chart I linked are all Approved Motor Vehicle Manufacturers in their own right and as such are legally permitted to make such changes (not just some backstreet mob of red-neck yokels).
