Tire wear question.

Hey all.

I've noticed today that my driver side tire(and passenger too but not as bad) is feathering on the inside. What is the most common cause of this occurance, if there is one, and what is the best method to determine the cause.

Thanks to all!

Front or back?

After you rotate the tires, does the effect move to the "new" tire on the affected corners? (Just making sure it isn't defective tires).

Brush the palm of your hand across the tread from inside to outside, and back from outside to inside. If you feel edges on the way from inside to outside, and smooth from outside in, it is probably from excessive toe-out.

Thanks to all who replied!

If it is toe out, would a simple alignment correct it or am I looking at replacing components? I've heard of UCAs or bushings being an issue as well?? What do I look for?

Thanks!

If it is merely toe-out, an alignment. But as you've noticed, the cause of the toe-out might need correcting, a good alignment shop should check for loose/worn components pre-alignment. If you can check the suspension first, you might save the money and frustration of aligning it twice (before and after the repairs).
