Anyone running 16" AMG Pentas - Tire Size?

I'm looking to buy some tires for a set of AMG pentas I recently cleaned up. I took them from a scrap W123 300 Coupe. They have ATS stamped on the inside and AMG and 8J x 16 H2 on the outside.

The wheels came with 205/55/16 on the front and 245/45/16 on the rear.

I'm not sure what the tire size should be.

Is anyone rolling on a set of 16" AMG pentas, if so what tire size are you using?

I'm putting these wheels on a '84 W123 300CD. Does anyone have any photos of these wheels on a W123 so I get an idea what they will look like?

Thanks

Lucky dog. I want those wheels.

Run 205/55/16 front and 225/50/16 rear. Thats what AMG originally equipped. You will likely need to roll the front fenders to accomodate the fit. If not, you'll probably take out some tire on hard cornering or in dips. Ask me how I know.

The tire will catch just below (towards the front) of where the fenders are tucked in from the factory. Don't worry about the rear potion of the fender.

I used a baseball bat to do it. People say to use a heat gun to keep the paint from cracking. Mine was fine initially without it, but 2 years later I do have slight cracking, but nothing major.

Rolled fender (you can see the chunk of tire I took out):

I guess the factory AMG W123 cars had a different suspension set up too accomodate the bigger wheels.

Thanks for the pics.

different suspension, yes, as in lowered and stiffer. They still have the fenders rolled to prevent rubbing.

the other alternative is a shorter (50 profile) front tire, but in my opinion is much too small for stock suspension. Some cars even had 225's put up front, but that would require even more extensive fender rolling, and maybe even some flaring. I wouldn't recommend it.

Looking at putting tires on a set of 16x8" Ronals with the et of 11. The offset is different from the factory AMG wheels and the Ronals isn't it? I see you have rolled the fenders with the AMG offset and 205/55's. I don't mind rolling but I really don't want to flare the fenders. I just got the spring compressor to lower the wagon but I am looking to put the widest tire possible on the car and then lower it.
I may have a junk 225/50 put on and see what the clearances are in the front. I suspect the 11 offset is going to prohibit the bigger tire.

The 11 offset is for the r107 and the w126 - they won't fit well on the w123.

POS, I appreciate your tactful comment. I see in your gallery that you have a 123 chassis car with similar wheel, I suspect because of your delightful description the wheels pictured are AMG wheels? Could you be so kind as to share the offset, rim size and width or is the only constructive comment you have to add is my wheels "won't fit well"?

Thanks for the input,

Jay

I sold that w123 AMG about two years ago, and it had 15" Pentas. On top of that, I don't remember what the offset was. But, I do have an AMG Tech Manual and they list the w123 AMG wheels as:

AMG 7x15 offset 15, tires 215/60 - 15
AMG 8x16 offset 11, tires 225/50 - 16

When stock is 6x14 offset 30, tires 195/70 - 14

Which means, that I was wrong. The 8x16 offset 11 is suitable for the w123 - learned something new today. Buy 225/50s and slap them on the wheels, then slap those on the car and you should be fine. Ta-da!

Thanks for the information. I still may test fit a 225/50 16 onto the front and use it to determine how low I can go with the car. I don't want to stagger and put 205/225/50 16 because of the inability to rotate the tires front to rear. Sure would look good though.

Thanks again,

Jay
