Best tire upgrade for w124 on 15" wheels?

I am replacing the crappy goodyear viva II tires that came with my recently purchased 300e. I wanted to run a wider tread than the standard 195/65/15. Would a 215/55/15 work? Thanks.

Why not upgrade to 16 or 17" MB wheels & their associated tires? I have done that with almost all of my MB's. My 1989 300E has 16" wheels from a 2002 E320, and my 1991 300CE has 17" AMG's from a C-Class. Let me know if you want pics. I probably have some extra sets of tires & wheels available also - if interested.

If you replace the goodies with Michelin in the original size you will be amazed at the improvment. Larger tires and wheels will increase unsprung weight and will make it ride rougher.

Stay with the stock size and get Michelin Pilot Exalto A/S. These are great tires - great in wet handling and hydroplaning, great dry. These will blow away the Vivas that you have now. Check out the Tirerack ratings. Keep them at 35 psi all around.

I just put michelin hydroedges in 195/70 14 on my 83 240/300d.

I Love them.

If you don't wish to change wheels, run 205-60-15 Michelin MXV4 Plus.

Michelin's Hydroedge are awesome tires.. all season M+S , high mileage too.

You can buy them at Costco... only problem they are not low profiles.. you will have to buy Michelin's Pilots A/S for low profile sports wheels...

Good Luck ..
