Tire mounting and balancing

What do you pay for tire mounting and balancing? I have new tires and wheels I need to have mounted and balanced, but I've never had tires I brought in done. I've always just had it done while I was buying the tires at the shop doing the work.

I usually pay about $20/tire to have it done. A little less if I keep the old tires.

I quit buying tires from tire stores after one of them tried to sell me three year old tires for my ML320. The guy was amazed that I knew about the date code and how to read it.

Now, I buy them from a well known online vendor. The set of Generals I bought for the ML were less than six weeks old when they showed up via the friendly UPS dude. I had my regular mechanic mount them, it's a relief knowing that some 18 y/o tire store kid isn't going to be messing about with my car.

I went to Just Tires in Fairfax on Saturday and the guy told me he wanted $55.00 apiece to mount and balance my tires. I told him that was crazy and he asked what size they were. When I told him they were 17," he said those would be $60.00.

I have bought two sets of tires from this place in the past. I won't go there again, though.

That's about what I was expecting. Does that include balancing them, too?

That sounds more like it. No problems with shoddy work, scratched or bent rims, etc at Walmart?

Have not had a problem using walmart for mounting and balancing tires. It took them less than 30 mins to mount/balance 4 tires on my 17" wheels.

They are balanced perfectly too.

Not for me. Shoddy work, scratched/bent rims, overtorqed bolts, etc. seems to be a risk at all price points.

I usually carry in my rims and tires and pay from 15 to 20 ea. to get them mounted and balanced.

I dont have them put my wheels and tires back on my car....

I just roll my wheels in as well as my new tires, and they do the work...
