Tire balancing powder / beads, have you used them ? What did you think ?

.

What do you guys think of this stuff ?

BB's seem to work in large tires.

Does this stuff work in smaller tires ?

Balancing powder and ball rings have been used in over the road trucks for years. Semis, RVs, rock crawlers, etc use them because balancing a large rubber tire is much more difficult and small changes in tread on large tires make large balance differences. Semis and RVs can get away with them since they live at a fairly constant speed. The downside for cars is they rarely stay at a constant speed so there would always be a few seconds of unbalance until the beads/power settle.

It only costs $10 to have all 4 tires balanced on a machine every few months, do it right.

Hell, the dealer wants $50 to do all 4, the tire shop down the road wants $7.50 a wheel. I could do it my self if I had the equipment. I have a VERY slight vibration on the highway at about 72mph, not enough to warrant a $20 fix, but still kinda annoying from time to time. I wish I could get my done for $10!

Beads and stuff are a waste of $ on a nice tire for a Mercedes car.
Whatever you do, if you suspect the tires are difficult to balance, have them balanced on a Hunter Load Balancer, that is worth the added cost. Finding a place that owns one can be a problem outside of a large city I suppose

I've seen that mentioned before in adds, but I never knew what was so great about it. I had two tires mounted and balanced at Costco the other day for $10.00 apiece.

Some other places wanted as much as $35.00 a tire to do it. They didn't give me a reasonable explanation as to why their prices were so much higher.

powder and beads are old school balancing fixes for larger tires like semi truck and off road styled tires

How are they supposed to work? Does centrifigal force cause them to disperse evenly and thus balance the tire?

It operates by pressing the tire against a drum and simulates actual conditions when the tire is on a car, that is the sidewall is extended and the tread is bulged out against the surface, this results in a perfect balance.

Ouch !

The local ford dealership is the closest place that has one of the Hunter load balancers and they want $72.00 to do 4 tires.

I only paid $50 each for the top rated kumho hr21 tires.
