What fits what?

Tried to search this ,but maybe somehere could help me out. I just purchased an 1983 MB 300SD with I think are the stock rims and Michelin tires (14") if I recall. I think there called bundt wheels?
Like I mentioned I'm new to Mercedes so please bare with me. Can someone tell me what rim & tire combo will fit on this car.(size etc) If possible I'd rather not mess with spacers or adapters . It seems like these cars sit up high in the front..Any help would be great.. Thanks in advance

Problem is, your question is so generic we dont' know how to answer. What are you looking to do? We need some direction, otherwise you can just go to a tire shop and get the answers you're looking for out of a catalog.

OK...I would like to replace my 14" bundts with the 14" Michlins(195/70/14) for a 16" rim and tire combo. I figure a 225/55/16 should work nicely, now I just need a rim from a different year MB to work....Should have been more discriptive...my fault!!! BTW...I don't want to use spacers...Thanks in advance...

Maybe this will help, I can't say how accurate it is though. It lists W123 offset at 30, I was always told it was more like 23 or 24?

The easiest replacement are stock rims from a generation 2 W126, they are 15" wheels, they are much improved over the stock bundts, You want the ones with the 20 mm offset not the 49 mm offset (Stock W124 rims).

Expect to pay $200 for the rims.

You can also install Aftermarket rims providing they are for the W126 or W123. most common choices are ASA (tire rack), AMG Pentas ($$$), AMG Monos ($$$), Ronal R9's ($500 usually), Centras ($500)

Late model MB rims may or may not fit, but they will never have the correct offset, which will generaly mean your handleing will be affected or increased wear on components.

The general consensus Is that 16" is as large as you should go on a W126, there are a few running around with 18 or 20's but I personally think they ruin the look of the car.

for a 6-6.5 inch rim you want a 30mm offest, for a 7 inch rim 20-25mm offest.

Oiler, wasn't trying to be harsh. I just reread my reply, and that's what it sounded like. My fault.

No kidding! I log on after hiding out in DeLorean land and I come back to my hangout (wheel/tire section) and see my name! I miss this place!

I'd have to dust off that part of my brain to see if the wheels would fit, but off hand I'd say yes. I am running 5mm spacers up front though because of the length of the hub pops the centercaps out. The 16's are LIGHT too! Check the sig...

By the way...where are you located? I doubt you're local, but if you are we could meet up and play around with wheel/tire combos.

Here's a couple pics of my 280CE before I traded it for my DeLorean:

These wheels stayed with me and are now on my 300CD chop-top.
