Recomended Tire Pressure...by tire size or as design by vehicle

I have a 95 E320 wagon with alloy wheels. The tires I have (205/60r 15 91v) do not match the recomended tire size listed on the door frame....maybe because I have a the alloy wheels. Anyhow, this is the tire size that came with the care when I bought it.

Regardiing tire pressure, do I follow what's listed on the vehicle door frame 29 psi front....32-38 rear? or do I follow what is listed for the tire?

The front tires look like they could use a little more air at 29 psi but the car drives fine? Just considering putting more air in the tires to possible improve gas mileage for a long trip I have coming up.

What's listed on the tire sidewall is the MAX recommend inflation for that tire. Try 35psi front & rear then experiment a few psi more or less to see what's more economical and ride-worthy. My W8 had 2 pressure listings, the second for "sustained high speeds" of 39F / 36 rear. I ran them at 41 & 38 and they were non-stock size as well. OE was 225/45R17. I was running 235/40R18's.

rule of thumb would be follow the vehicle manufacturers recommendation since they are based on the vehicles weight. With that said you need to understand that those recommendations are a compromise between performance and comfort and are skewed more towards ride comfort. I, for one, am more concerned with performance than ride comfort so, I tend to bump the pressures up a bit
