190E with C36 Brakes?

Hello,

Iam the owner of a 1991 W201 1.8L Sportline (Europe - Greece) and I am currently trying to upgrade its performance. More specifically, I will be soon installing a Mossleman turbo kit but before doing that I know its necessary to improve my braking. I happened to get my hands on a set of w202 C36 brakes and I am trying to figure out what wheel/tire combination will work with these particular calipers/rotors.

You may be thinking why not going for the 16V calipers/rotors instead while keeping my AMG 15" wheels. Like I said, i got these c36 brakes at a very low price and i dont mind upgrading to a bigger wheel to make them work.

I read in the forum about a fellow who has a c36 and wants to install 16" wheels, he tried w203 16" rims with ET37 offset and did get the caliper clearance he needed (although barely). So I am guessing, I can go for a wheel set of 16 x 7,5 ET37. Please advice.

Thank you for your time!

I have yet to see a 16" wheel that will clear the C36 brakes. Does he have pictures?

I've seen this setup, but only with 17" wheels and with the calipers mounted in the reverse position, to clear the steering mechanism.

Doesn't the C36 use the same 320mm rotors as the R129 600SL and W124 E500? If so, they should clear the 16 x 8 ET34 wheels from either of those cars.

17x7.5 ET is the limit for tha car and I find it hard to beleive that there are any 16's that can clear those brakes

Well these partilar front calipers go with 316mm rotors. My guess was 17"wheels with either 35 or 37 offset (easier for me to buy a set of 17x7,5 ET35) but it would be ideal to use 16" wheels to avoid the extremely low tire profile (bad roads in greece). There are many choices for 16x7,5 ET335/37 but again i ay have to take the risk. I doubt 16x8 can fit nicely on my car. Thank you guys for your valuable input

I knew a guy back in Jersey that installed C36 brakes on a 190 2.3-16. Don't remember what wheels he used but he did have a hell of a time. Think it narrowed to only 2 choices...
