15" Steel wheels for the w123?
So, I'm looking for a set of 15" steel wheels to put on my 300td, but not having any luck. Can someone point me in the right direction? Am I right in assuming that finding OEM 15" steel wheels is gonna be basically impossible? It seems that some vw's may have come with steelies that would do, but its not clear what the offset on them is. Any help would be appreciated.

You're either going to have to find them used, or maybe you'll be able to get some from the MB Classic Center. The latter will probably set you back a lot.

I don't need no stinkin hubcaps! basically, I'm planning a trip in the 300td up the James Bay road, and across the Trans-Taiga road, so i want to have steel wheels for ease of repair on the road. Last year we did a trip across the Trans-Labrador highway in a couple Saab 900's, and I was able to repair this wheel very easily with a sledgehammer. I want the 15's because I plan to upgrade to some later w126 brakes and they wont fit under the 14" steel wheels. so yeah, hubcaps are the least of my concerns. Paul |

You can get the ones for the W126
7Jx15 ET25 - they cost an arm and a leg these days though... because the M100 folks need them for their 600s, or 6.3s $340 ea. from these guys: http://www.worldimpex.com/search_by_partno.html?searchmode=partno&partno=126+400+2802+&x=24&y=10 Try asking Phil at Fastlane, maybe he might be able to get them at a better price. part number is: 126-400-28-02 or get a set from ebay.. http://cgi.ebay.de/NEU:-Mercedes-w126-Winter-Komplettr%E4der,-260SE---500SEL_W0QQitemZ320318244924QQcmdZViewItemQQimsxZ20081115?IMSfp=TL081115118001r2213

Wow, those even come with brand new snow tires (of an "english" brand) and the hubcaps are available! I'd ask for them sans tires, though, or the already expensive shipping will be exorbitant!

Steel wheels
Mmmmm, you can probably get steel wheels from the sponsor, Tire Rack. I do not work for them now or ever in any capacity. I ordered steel wheels from them about five years ago for Saab and they were about $35 each. Shipping was reasonable.
The bent steel wheel above on that Saab is one of the reasons I went steel. Also, salt on the steel is better than the Al rims. Unsprung weight is increased, and I can keep the Hakka's on the steel wheels and the summer tires on the Al rims. Check out tire rack. They were easy to order from. Good luck! Randy Kasal |
