Wheels and Tires for '85 500SEC Euro (W126)

Just inherited a 85 500SEC Euro with AMG body kit. I'm changing it piece by piece and I've finally saved enough for new wheels and tires. I don't know what I can fit into the wheel wells though, without having to modify the car. I was looking at traditional MonoblockII AMG 17 inch rims with Dunlop SP Sport 235-45-17ZR, I wanted to know if anybody has any opinions or if they have done this already and know from experience.
Let me know
Thanks

Mike

Mike, First off Welcome to the Site!!

Thats a beautiful car, one of my favorite benz designs, the w126 coupe.

Ok for starters, check out www.tirerack.com and use the upgrade garage to look at wheels on a 126 chassis car. It will give recommended tire sizes and there is a great selection of rims and tires.

If you are going to order, make sure you mention luke on the online orders page, or call and ask for luke, though I am not sure if he is back from his vacation.

Now, check out www.mbcoupes.com for some great info on the 126 coupe cars. And be sure to check out the 560SEC 32V Conversion by Stumala that is absolutely amazing.

You have the bodykit, so thats good for starters. The monoblock II wheels look great on the car, you cannot go wrong with them.

You might even think about debadging the 500sec badges if there are any.

THanks for the quick response.
I had checked out tirerack, i was just concerned about putting 17's in the wheel well, i was worried that they might rub against it, i checked out some other posts about 16 inch tires with front and rear spacers (15mm, 10mm, front and rear respectivly) but was curious what info people had on 17 inch rims,
I definitly will debadge it (i recently did that to my audi S4, nobody has a clue as to what it is, especially with the chip in it),

thanks again for the quick response
anybody out there with a W126 chassis with 17 inch rims, AMG monoblocks, let me know
thanks

I have 17x7 and 17x8 AMG Monoblock II replica's on my SEL with 265 rears and 235's in the front and they work perfectly, no rubbing or anything.

Matt.

I have 18" Carlssons on a '85 500 SEC with no problems
