Vented Rotors - Wheels Won't Fit - Bundts on a 190d

So I upgraded the front brakes on my 190d from the solid rotors to vented rotors and calipers off a '91 190e. It went really well, a simple swap that can be done in about an hour or two. So I bolted up the wheels and took it off the stands. Started it up, put it in reverse CLUNK!

Oops

So yeah, the 14in flat front stock wheels don't fit over the larger calipers. I needed the car the next day so I could back to school so I had to find something that would clear so I could drive back. I had a set of Bundts in the barn for the SD and I crossed my fingers and bolted them up. They do fit and juuuuuust clear the calipers It's a good temporary fix until I can find some proper wheels.

So anyways, attached is what a w201 looks like with Bundts

Exclamation I'm relatively new to the 190D as well......

I have 2 W201 cars.....an '84 190D, 2.2, 5 speed, and an '85 190E, 2.3, parts car.....
I purchased both of these cars "as is" and not from the original owners!!!

The 190D came with 14" wheels......most probably exactly like your wheels

The 190E came with 15" wheels......they look similarly, but I have never counted the "openings"......I don't know if these wheels are OE or Aftermarket.......they do use a different length of lug, at least that's what I found.....so I don't know about the "offset"......but whatever these 15" wheels are, they would most probably work with your recent brake modification.

Too bad that you live way over there on the Left Coast......

The 201 wheels (15-hole "flat-face) were modified in the inside in '87 for brake clearance.

That car must have been designed for wheels with lots of negative offset. That actually looks really good. Kind of a retro-modern look. Those bundts just need about a 1/2" more negative offset to tuck the tires a little.

First 190 I have seen with bunts, looks good. I would leave them on unless
you have a rubbing problem with the fenders when going up driveways off the road, or hit a dip.

what are those cars in the back ground? kind of looks like an old Freiser (SP), or Kaiser.

there were three HP ratings on the OM616...

1) Not much power
2) Even less power
3) Not nearly enough power!! 240D w/auto

Anyone that thinks a 240D is slow drives too fast.

I do think they look better than I thought they would. Despite having much larger tires than what was stock, there is no rubbing at all and it really fills the wheel arches. Not a bad look but a bit odd I suppose.

The cars in the background are actually Panhard Dyna Z. (The blue is a 1956 and the red is a 1957) I obtained these through a friend of a friend. The guy had them sitting beside his barn for the better part of 30 years and he said that if I could get one running then I could have them for free. The cars were not running when parked and the red one had always been the parts car so I focused on the blue '56. It was a bit a bit of a mess but between the two of them I had enough parts to make a running engine, and I was able to get it running in the course of a day of serious wrenching. Reconstructed the distributer, (which was in pieces on the front seat) cleaned & adjusted the carb, rebuilt the rotted o-rings in the fuel pump, and cleaned the mess of grease and grime out of the starter. It was amazing to get it to sputter to life after sitting dormant for decades, an awesome sound. Real simple engine, all aluminum horizontally opposed two cylinders but they were hemis so it produces about 60HP And it has suicide doors!

So anyways, those are my two french cars made entirely of unobtanium in the way of parts which I intend to restore to at least drivable condition when I get out for Christmas break in two weeks. I must be insane but it was a once in a lifetime opportunity to own a car that incredibly rare in America as they were only imported for a couple of years and not in large number by any means. Panhards are an interesting engineering spec car. They used to win the economy class at le mans all the time in the fifites and sixties.

Air cooled front drive two cylinder, IIRC.

Have fun. Having owned a couple of frenchies I hope the panhard is made better than mine were!

Are you sure your lug bolts are not hitting inside rear shoes.That happen to me.Looks good,I like my meat to hang out too.
