Singing the praises of tire chains

Last week I drove my 300SD from Calgary over the Kicking Horse and Rogers Passes to the BC interior. Quite a lot of hard packed snow and ice which the Nokian WR's handled just fine.

Two days later we had 10" of new snow in town. I installed my brand new Thule CB-12 tire chains and the old SD is just like a tank with those on. She felt more stable and grippy than a 4WD. Awesome.

So if you live in snow country and expect to encounter deep snow, get yourself a set of decent chains. A good snug fit - so they don't rattle around - and a diamond shape over the tire tread - are key things to look for.

I love them too

I have a set for the Jeep. It really helps when I am pushing a lot of snow. Even in 4Lo it would slip without the chains on.

I haven't seen snow chains since 1975. I've learned to live with the knowledge that I may not ever see that kind of snow again . . . . .

I am not likely to forget those days of snow and tire chains. We lived in Central OR Nothing like working all day and they coming home to fix tire chains in the dark and cold.
