At what point will I need longer bolts?

I'm gonna try and squeeze 18x9.5's in the rear on my 300TE. Gonna look so sweet...I think it should work if I roll the fenders.

The wheels have 46mm offset so I'll need a spacer.....but at what point will I need longer bolts? Is there a definitive answer to this?

Any thoughts?

Bumping this.

Let's say a 10mm spacer. Will I need longer lug bolts?

If I must get longer lug bolts...where is the best place to get them from?

I would think you'd need lug bolts that are 10mm longer than what you have now, wouldn't you?

This is the first time I've ever swapped wheels, so I am not sure how exactly lug bolts are in comparison to spacers.

I heard there are different size lug bolts...anybody know what the stock MB bolts are for the size?

Any recommended sites on where to buy quality lug bolts the cheapest?

What are the wheels off of?

Are you for sure planning on using 10mm spacers?

Off an S-Class. ET 47. From what I understand, the rears should fit fine with et 47...it is the front that needs the spacer for sure.

The tires are pretty big so maybe I should get a 5mm spacer on the front and rear to keep it the same.

Get lugs here:

http://www.hrsprings.com/distributors/US/CA/

Find what you need here:

If you click the 3 under notes, it gives you the sizes it needs.

Which S class? You may need the bolts with 14mm head and 12mm threading.

All DR-Systems require longer wheel bolts. These must be ordered separately. When ordering wheel bolts, please follow these guidelines:

a) If possible, name the brand of wheel.

b) New bolts must be longer than the original bolts by the width of the wheel spacer used.

c) The bolt head must be identical to the existing bolt:
Taper 60° End digit 01
Round head for M12/d24 mm, for M14/d28 mm End digit 02
Round head for M12/d26 mm (e.g. OE VAG-wheels) End digit 03
Flat head for Porsche original wheels M14 x 1.5 End digit 06

d) Safety guidelines
(Minimum number of turns for wheel bolts / nuts):
M12 x 1.25 = 8.0 turns = approx. 10 mm of load bearing shaft length
M12 x 1.50 = 6.5 turns = approx. 10 mm of load bearing shaft length
M12 x 1.75 = 6.5 turns = approx. 12 mm of load bearing shaft length
M14 x 1.25 = 9.0 turns = approx. 12mm of load bearing shaft length
M14 x 1.50 = 7.5 turns = approx. 12 mm of load bearing shaft length
1/2" UNF = 8.0 turns = approx. 11 mm of load bearing shaft length

e) Please ensure that the wheel bolts do not damage any part of the brake system (ABS sensors, etc.). Turn the wheel by hand and check clearance on the inside of the hub. The wheel should rotate freely. (Maximum tolerance for some vehicles is only 2mm -- i.e. Rear Axle Mercedes).
^ Perfect Thanks!!

Cool, you dont need the 14mm headed bolts....

The 12mm headed bolts should work.

Ok Sweet. Thanks!
Now just gotta decided if I should go 5mm or 10mm...

Any thoughts?

Is it a problem to do like 5mm on the rear and 10mm on the front? Is it preferred to keep them the same?

I have 10mm spacers for the front of my car, and 20mm for the back....

I got the correct lugs and everything to put them on.... Just too lazy to go out and do it.

Got em

They got directional tires and they look about 80% tread which isn't bad. Lips were reconditioned as it stated. The main face of the rim could do with a recondition too at a later date...but its nothing that needs attention right away unlike my Lorinsers.

Paid $700 total for them with my ebay coupon. Don't think I did too badly. Should be under $1000 once I get locking wheel nuts, longer lugs and spacers, which was my intended budget.

^ From a few feet away you can hardly tell there is anything wrong at all. So should look great for a few months before I get em touched up.

^ Rear Tire

^Front Tire

8.5J x 18" ET47 with 255/45/18 fits PERFECTLY on the rear. I honestly couldn't want it any better. It fits the arch perfect...No rubbing and doesn't stick in or out further than I would want.

The fronts have some issues with it touching the suspension strut. Used some 5mm washers for temporary spacers to test with and it still rubs slightly. Also it is very very close to the fender so the best option would be to get a smaller tire for the front. I kinda already knew I would have problems with the front tire size as most people put 225 on the front...and I have 255.
