190e Wheel And Tire Clearance!
I have a 1988 190E 2.6 that has been lowered by 40mm and is currently running on 205/50/15 tires on a set of AMG replicas.
I know that this profile tire is incorrect as it should be 55 series. I recently had new fenders fitted to my car and had to have the edges rolled up to clear the tires that exist, if I had the correct profile fitted the tire top edge would be just up inside the wheel arch where as at the moment there is a small gap. I am looking to replace my wheels with 17 inch running 205/45/17 which will give me an almost identical (0.05inch larger) rolling radius to mercedes original spec 195/60/15. Why do some use 215/40 or 45/17 wrong rolling radius? What I'm worried about is are the tires going to clear the fenders, particularly when turning a corner. Any advice would be gratefully received. |

This calculator should help you decide - even shows a drawing of the wheel widrh and diameter changes.

My old 1992 190E 2.6 was fitted with eibach lowering springs and I had AMG 5-spoke 7.5 wide by 17" dia. with 205/40/17 tires and there was no rubbing in the front or back (though you could put a 8.5" rim on the back with bigger rubber, I'm told). I tried a 215/45 all around and an 8" rim and they rubbed. It all depends on how low your car is and the bump pads/shocks are too. If your fenders are rolled you should be good though as I did not, hence the rubbing. Those 205/45/17 should work out fine provided they aren't on a rim wider than 7.5"...which isn't recommended for the small sedan...except for those who pimp and pander. Just my 2 pennies.Hope it helps.

TIRE OPTIONS..
I HAVE A 190E 2.6 LOWERED WITH EIBACH SPRINGS...I'M RUNNING ON 17X7.5 CARLSSON 1/6 WITH 215/40 TIRES FRONT AND BACK, NO PROBLEM...I TRIED MY AMG RIMS WITH 215/45 FROM MY OTHER CAR AND THEY RUBBED A LITTLE BIT...SO MY SUGGESTION FOR YOU IS, 215/40 ALL THE WAY AROUND OR IF YOUR CAR IS REALLY LOW IN THE FRONT AND WANT TO MAKE SURE THAT NO RUBBING OCCURS, DO A 205/45 IN THE FRONT AND 215/40 IN THE REAR...I HAVE THAT SET UP ON MY SET OF EVO2 WHEELS WHICH ARE ACTUALLY FOR SALE....SEE MY AD IN THE CLASSIFIED SECTION ON THIS SITE....LET ME KNOW IF YOU'RE INTERESTED..

My 93 190E 2.6 is lowered about 1.5" from Eibach springs up front, and another 20mm from switching to the smallest perch/pad/shim height.
I have fenders rolled, and use 215/50/16 on 16x7.5s. No rubbing at all, even on extremely high dips at triple digit speeds, and I never leave the ground either :p I tried 18x8s with 225/35/18, and they fit just fine, except the rub on the inside corner where the corner of the sheet metal meets the fender, and i just cut a little bit of the off. Works great! Good Luck.
