Question 8x18...will it fit on a w126?

I'm getting ready to buy a set of 8x18 AMG Monoblock replicas from Bekkers, but I'm concerned that they might not fit right my '88 420SEL. Can anyone help me? I'm afraid they'll rub against the fenders under cornering or heavy braking.

The suspension is stock, but I'd like to lower the car about 1.5" in the future, I'm wondering if this will cause problems as well.

Has anyone put 8" wide rims on a 126 sedan? Would they stick out at all?

Thanks.

Nearly

I am running a set of 17 x 7 front and 17x8 rear with no rubbing issues at all. Rear tires are 265's.

Matt.

Mattman,

Do you have any pictures of your car? I'd love to see some pics of a 126 sedan with monoblocks.

I am waiting to get my lowered front suspension fitted before I scan some pics in - hopefully should be in the next couple of weeks. I will post them here when I have scanned them in.

Cheers
Matt.

Your 18's should work pretty good because I'm running 18.8.5's w/235/40/18 all around with no rubbing at all and I've run 19's and 20's also with no rubbing...I switch em because of course your ride changes a bit but no biggie with any of those configurations. You know the less "sidewall" you have the more you'll feel so its just a matter of what you wanna put up with.I haven't lowered her yet because the stance I get is aggressive as is but contemplating it.Good luck and BE SURE they give you the correct offset and stay away from spacers.

I'll try to get some pics up sometime soon.I've been taking a crapload of pics as I do different things to my 560 but have been too lazy to get them developed.I need to get on that and get em scanned. Are there any other W126 owners with larger wheel/tire combinations they can contribute to the forum? There's a load of 124 owners here with some tight rides but there needs to be some 126 "wonderwheels" here too! Where are ya?

DJNEWK2,

I would LURVE to see your 18-inch on 126 pics, and better still, if u have photos as well of the 19 and 20-inchers u mentioned!

Just one question: what is the maximum rim width the rear can take? 18 X 10.0J?

I've taken pics, but I'm still developing them.

I was told 9" wide would fit in the rear, with minor fender modifications.

BTW, to everyone that would like to know, 8" wide in the front DOES rub, but not in the rear. And only a very little bit, very rarely.

Mattman, your car looks great! It will look (and perform) much better when you lower it, preferably with the front slightly lower than the rear.

What's the color? Black or dark blue?

Thanks Mervyn. Not sure what the colour is, most of the time it looks like a dark gray however in the sun sometimes it looks navyish. I plan on taking about 1.5in out of the front suspension which should get everything sitting about right. The self levelling in the rear needs adjusting as I think it's sitting a tad low at the moment. Have you got any pics of your car yet?

Mattman,

Yes, your car's rear is sitting too low. My recently lowered 126 had a finger-wide fender gap both front and rear. I'm using 4 bump pad (front) and 3 bump pad (rear). I used Vogtland Springs and KONI Reds, and the ride/handling is excellent.

Will try to take some pics soon.

Hey guys!
Its nice to see some 126 owners represented here for a change Nice looking ride Mattman! Merv, I'll get on those pics although I've got over 20 something rolls of film to develop and one by one I'm getting em developed so I have to be patient (one of the rolls will be pics I'm REALLY looking for!).I've only found kinda old pics of my 126 but trying to find the ones with the different wheels because I got rid of 2 of the 3 sets...I actually just ordered some more 18's (10 spoke) for a decent price and should have em by the weekend so of course those will be more pics (I probably won't be able to find to develop those either) but eventually by process of elimination, will find ALL of my pics! One of my buddies that bought my 20's did run 18x10 in the rear on his SEC and never mentioned rubbing...Don't know if he's ever tried em on his SEL... He got rid of those because of the issues with rotating or lack of rotating the tires (because he couldn't put those babies up front!).Big Pimpin', I was wondering what size tire you're running with your wheels? I haven't had rubbing issues (but note, I am sooo anal that I only run my 18x8.5's on the cruising "roadtrips" we take on the highways here where there are practically NO crazy dips, etc and the majority of the time I just keep my chrome 15's on during the week or regular running around) which keeps the wheels looking brand new all the time because I WILL sell em! I was also thinking of rolling my fenders so as to have the capacity to run even wider or taller tires than I normally do. Hope we continue to share our 126 info, ideas and opinions as well as develop a "special" relationship if you will with fellow 126 owners. You guys keep in touch!
