Emergency Rim interchangeability

This came up in another thread:

What other brands of rims fit the Benz 112 MM 5 bolt pattern?
For what years?

This can be helpful in emergencies and picking up rims at junkyards for emergency transportation.

As a starter, I know that:

All passenger car rims from 1936-1953 (all 170 series, 260 Diesel, 300 Gullwing and Adenauer series to 1962) use either 15' or 16"
rims approx 115 mm apart and 5 x 14mm studs with 19mm lug nuts/lug wrench.

All rims, no matter what diameter, between 1954 and 1985 (except the 1953-62 300 limo and gullwing series) use a 5 bolt pattern where the studs/holes are 12mm and the holes are 112mm from center. The lug wrench is 17mm.

Has anyone ever gotten any other rims from any other cars that fit, in an emergency?

Do Bimmer rims fit? VW? To secure on a trailer or roll into a garage?

I have never seen a thread on this.

If it needs to be duplicated and moved to tech help for gassers, be my guest.

Thanks,
S

FWIW, I've seen MB wheels on an older VW before. Think it was an early 90's Golf or something. As long as the size and offset are right, it should work.

I believe that the M-B wheels will bolt on to all Audi 5-bolt and VW 5-bolt (includes Golf & Jetta starting '00 I believe). However, I understand that the center bore for the Mercedes is larger than the Audi/VW (except Vanagon) and therefore the VW/Audi wheels won't fit the Mercedes.

The Vanagon has a larger center bore than the Mercedes (at least my Syncro did).

BMW does also.I'm looking for Bimmer wheels that stick out more, like the muscle cars. This will give me a wider stance,I can fit the Mercedes Star on the rims.I think BMWs always had better rims. All the wheels they sell now look like frontwheel drive wheels.I want my bolts 4' or more inside rim.

VW Jettas and golfs prior to the current platform use 5x100 wheels if they have 5 lug wheels. The current crop of cars, and Passats from 1998 on use 5x112.

3-spoke 1990's Mustang alloy rims fit and clear everything without spacers. They look pretty good once you switch out the center from a mustang to a star...

Well, in my case, I got a rude awakening when using the factory supplied spare in the trunk. I purchased the car from the prior owner, and the spare was in the trunk and both the tire and rim looked fine. New tires put on, and about 5000 miles later, I decided to rotate them myself at home using the spare in the rotation process rather than take a chance on two jacks holding up one side of the car. Pulled the spare our of the trunk, put in on the hub, and started to put in the lugs. Low and behold, lugs on the mag wheels were too long for the spare rim, and would not seat the wheel. Thats when I found out that Mercedes supplies a separate set of lugs for the spare rim, which of course I could not find in the trunk. Just happy that my "discovery" occurred in front of my garage, and not on the side of the road with a flat tire. Got the correct lugs on line, and they work like a charm.
