Question AeroI 17" monoblks & 560SEC tire fitment

Just got me some AMG 8Jx17H2 et11 monoblocks, but also getting conflicting tire size specs. Seller told me: "If your suspension is stock(correct) then the tire size recommended by AMG is 245/45/17 all around". HOWEVER, he was also running them on an '84 500SEC-not a '87 560.

An old AMG (catalog?) post specifies 235/45's, but it's difficult to read some other notations (shown below). It looks like it says "...adjustment of wheel house?" TireRack site also indicates 235/45 as their default value for a 17" on these W126's. Checked the 'calculator', and the results (also below) indicate a slight width increase with 245/45's - but is that enuff to prevent mounting without other adjustments needed ?? I know these rims are supposed to be the max/perfect size to put on (after screwing with modded bolts).

What happens to ride-quality with the low-R-profile 235's. Anyone
care to share their definitive answers or, better yet, experience?
Best go with the KISS principle before putting the rubber on

What DO you base your tire selection on when you are running non-stock wheels? Do you go by the wheels only, or is their something you have to factor in about the car as well?

tire fit

While these may be non-stock, I was given to understand they were designed by AMG for these w126's. So I did not expect (or want) to have to do any fender rolling! I read the gen-2's had larger brakes to factor into wheel/tire clearances also.

If 235/45/17's make for a clean & simple mount, that's what I'd go with. It's enuff to deal with having to get the bolts machined-down.

Yeah, mine is a second gen SEC. I think they do have larger brakes.
