They're horrible on slick stuff but for yearly driving, I'm running Michelin Harmony at the moment. They don't just kill the wallet (I think it was $460.00 last time I bought a set and had the best old one mounted as the spare) and I'll probably always run Michelins opposed to the cheaper stuff. Sort of a nice mid-range high quality tire still (I'm hoping. They used to be.) Just put my second set of these on, the first set lasted 50k or 55k miles. Changed them at 50 and they might have made it to 60 but I was going into the winter and didn't feel like taking my chances.

I used to get my tires from a tire store chain but switched to Sams/Costco when I found that their prices were cheaper and IMO, good quality tires for everyday use. You can buy the best tire out there but if you don't keep up the alignment and proper pressure you might as well kiss it goodbye. Especially us in the rust belt are prone to slow leak due to oxidized rims. When having tires rotated and rebalanced, always have them check condition of rims. They would usually clean off the rim edges and put sealant around to help minimize this problem. Also recently, famous tire chain store have been sending notices to their customers to bring in vehicle due to potential valve stem problem that may cause air leak. They replace the valve stems when you bring in vehicle.

I mount and balance myself, but most tire chain stores will match tirerack prices, and still include the free mount and balance. (maybe even an alignment) If something goes wrong with the tire, I would go straight to the manufacturer.

Check at the store, they might/probably have 14 inch tires. I do know that Cosco's website doesn't have tires listed for a w123 mercedes.
