Tire Recommendation

Just installed 4 Michelin Primacy MXV4's (195/65/15) on my 95 E300 Diesel. Incredibly quiet. Smooth and stable ride. A no brainer for this car. Have psi set at 30 which is 3 above MB spec, but the ride does not suffer in my opinion.

Cheap Tires

No such thing(s),only lower cost with concurrent lower quality.

Let us see if you can be so effusive in extolling those tires in...say...
40,000miles?

The wonderful thing about the Michelin tires is the ability to Jerk the Steering Wheel over HARD and Fast
(as you would in an emergency) ,without rolling the sidewalls off the rims.

I wouldn't want to risk Life ,Limb and MB with Inferior Tires ,no matter what the cost savings.
One of the reasons people drive Mercedes is the automobile's ability to "Get you
out of Harm's Way".Installing inferior tires defeats the Mercedes Lifesaving
function.

I used to be a real tire whore. Bought tires like most people change oil, on everything from my track car to daily to diesel motorcoach.

So many tires I have bought because I was told by Tire Rack or some other that they are "as good as a Pirelli" or "as good as a Michelin". I've given away more harsh-riding bad-in-rain crappy GoodYear/Nitto/Dunlop/Yokohama tires after finding that they are exactly what you pay for: lower quality tires. Many times they are just hard to keep balanced/round.

Michelin's premium tires (not the bottom-of-the-line) tires are ROUND, and stay that way. My experience is that they don't need constant re-balancing as cords shift etc., don't need to ride harsh to handle well, don't get into harder-compound rubber after 15,000miles and slip like slicks, etc. Ditto for Pirelli, I've never found an ultra-high-performance tire that rides as well and sticks in the wet (excellent dynamic friction) like a Pirelli P-Zero family tire.

You get what you pay for. Look at the OE tires on the best cars in the world, they wouldn't be paying a penny more for the tire if it didn't make the car better, you can bank on that.

Best is a highly subjective word that means different things to different people.

My experience on balancing tires is that the Michelins tend to maintain the original balance, even months and many thousands of miles after. This is especially obvious on cars that have quality wheels; late 80s/ early 90s Japanese luxury cars- quite a few came with BBS wheels, Mercedes, BMW (oddly enough not so much on the truck/ van/ SUV wheels for the German vehicles.)

Michelin Pilot Exalto A/S - gotta love them - great wet grip and hydroplaning resistance. Corners beautifully. My wife doesn't usually notice ANYTHING about her car, but raved about the handling upon installation of these on her Jetta (replaced the OEM MXV4 S8). I'm on my second set on the Golf.

Michelin All The Way

Michelin Pilots are the only tires I trust at 150mph. Tires are the most important part of the vehicle...hopefully the only part touching the road ... so they deserve to be the best.

While many would not hesitate to drop big dollars on engine and brakes, who stops to consider that tires are the most significant performance and safety upgrade there is?
