Hi. I heard that if you cut just one spring coil, it won't affect the progressive spring rate. Is this true?? How many inches will it drop your car if you just cut one coil? Thanks..

Springs for your car, Eibach, H&R or even factory are specifically designed for their given purpose, ride comfort, performance, lowering, etc. and you should not under any circumstance cut a spring. Most springs are designed to exacting specs for ride height and performance under a given circumstance. Modifying the spring in such a way would dramatically alter its ability to do the job properly the way it was designed. Changing the physical properties of a spring will alter the spring rate and IS NOT RECOMMENDED
I can not stress this enough !!! If you want to go a little lower you can change either the spring pads on your vehicle or even the springs to get your car stance the way you want it. Hi Luke.. Thank you so much for your reply.. Well, I agree with you on everything you said. The thing is that some people want to drop their cars more than 2 inches... I know not too many benz owners will do this.. but, some really do.. You know that most companies don't make springs that can lower the car that much.. 1.5 inches max... You know that cutting the springs is the only way to achieve the slammed-to-the-ground look... HEHE.. i know you will not agree with me.... Oh yeah....Cutting springs is a big nono.. I agree.. I also wonder why no companies makes coilover for M-benz?? Could you tell me why for once and all?? Audi, bimmer, porsche..all have coilver kits avaiable for the public.. what's up with benz?? Thanks again for reading this..

If you are determined to cut the springs, my advice is to call the Spring manufacturer directly, and ask to speak with someone in Tech assistance, so that if it is done, they can help you minimize the potential dangers, Or least give you the best educated answer to your questions about the change in Spring rates.

Before I cut the springs on my car I would call a tuner or speedshop and ask about them doing a custom set. The safety of your car, persons in it, and others on the street far outweighs the any cosmetic desire to "NOPI" a german sedan. You may pay a bit more but if you really want the look...
Hope this helps...Lee |

I have to agree with everyone that cutting the springs is a BIG NO NO. A few people that have Mercedes that want the super low look have used custom springs as Lee suggests. I do not know of any manufacturer that makes Coilovers for Mercedes.
