6.5J15H2 ET48 from a W124 "okay" on a W201???

I have a '89 300CE what came with chrome pizza pie 15-hole wheels of a size 6.5J15H2 ET48. I was able to replace them with W124 Sportline 8-hole wheels (7J15H2 ET41) and have been very happy with the look of them on the coupe.

Just purchased an '84 190D that has 5Jx14H2 ET50 wheels on them. I've thought about putting the 8-hole wheels on, but really like the look of the pizza pie wheels on the W201. They look good on the sedan.

According to alloywheelsdirect.net, there are no 6.5" rims listed for the W201. They have 15x6 ET49 and 15x7 ET 41 and 15x7 ET44.

Before I spend the money for four new tires for my old 6.5" W124 rims for the W201, are there any adverse issues I need to be aware of with the 6.5x15 ET48? Reason for going with the 6.5" rims is so I can run some tires wider than a 5" rim will support.

Thank you for any help. I realize that these questions are asked all the time, but a search did not reveal a specific answer to using 6.5" rims on a W201.

They will fit and look just fine. Generally any wheels that will fit a 201 will fit a 124 and vice versa, unless you are at the extreme limits of offset or width which 6.5" ET48 certainly isn't. The 14" wheels on early 201s would be an important exception, though---124s need at least 15" wheels to clear the larger rotors.

(I never heard the term "pizza pie" for the stock early 124 wheels before. I like it. )

Thank you, Alex. I'll go to the Miata Tire Calculator and see what tire will fit the 6.5" rims with the same height as the stock 175/70R14 84S tires that my spare has now. Currently have good rubber, so I can look for a deal before purchasing.

6.5J15H2 ET48 and 7J15H2 ET41 do NOT fit on a W201

Rats!

Neither of my W124 wheels fit on my W201. Had some time this afternoon and mounted each in turn to see how it would fit and look. The original 15-hole 6.5J15H2 ET48 (MB part number 124 401 07 02) and the current 8-hole 7J15H2 ET41 (MB part number 124 401 13 02) do not fit on my 190D. The tires mounted on the wheels are not the correct size for a W201, but in both cases, the existing tires (P195/65R15 89H on the 6.5" rim and P215/60R15 93T on the 7" rim) rub up against the strut on the 190D. Not much, but enough to wear the paint/grease off the strut.

Looks like I'm going to have to stick to W201 specific rims. Guess I'll be on the lookout for 6J15H2 rims, which were OEM W201 rims in the later years of the model run.

Then again, maybe it is just my particular car. It being a 1984 model is very early in the production run. They might have changed things after a few years. The wheel fit guide posted in other threads list 15x7 ET41 as being able to fit with a 205/55R15 tire, but it rubs with a 215/60R15 tire. Does one tire size width really make that much difference?

The W201 rims changed a few times over the years. The early ones will not fit the later cars that have vented discs. The caliper will hit the inside spoke-like features. The later rims had smaller spokes to give clearance. The later rims will fit the earlier cars, and they all fit the 190D because it didn't get vented discs.

Interesting.

Early (forged) W124 wheels shod with 195/65 - 15 Michelins worked quite well on my 87 190D 2.5.

Well, that's very weird and contradicts everything I've heard and read---but the proof is in the pudding. Sorry to have misled you.

That's interesting....

I gather from the previous posts that the 15" wheels from a W124 will not fit a W201 with 14" wheels.....

I have a set of 6.5 15" from an old 1987 300D Turbo that I would like to place on a 1989 190E 2.6....they are both 15" wheels....

I'd like to place tires on the W210 that are just a bit wider than the originals....

Any thoughts....

I'm assuming that "W210" is a typo and you really mean "W201". Best advice I can give you is to try one on the front. Rear should be fine. Just jack up one front corner, swap the tire, and lower back down. A ten-minute job to check. Look under the front, between the tire and strut to see how much clearance. Look for at least a centimeter or half an inch. That should be enough. When I tried, it touched slightly. I've since purchased a set from the local junk yard that while not perfect, are pretty nice. They have a 201 part number, so will fit fine, after I clean them up and put some rubber on them. (I purchased two bad condition wheels/tires to test first before committing to the nice set of four.) You just have to try it yourself. Won't take long.
