Michelin Pilot Sport A/S Plus or Pilot Exalto PE2

The car is a 1998 E320 W210 chassis on the stock 225/55/16 wheels. I live in Los Angeles, CA so im not worried about rain or winters. Looking for great handling but not a choppy ride. Dont want it to bouncy either. Im currently looking at the Michelin line. Either the Michelin Pilot Sport A/S Plus or the Michelin Pilot Exalto PE2. Anyone have experiance with either? or should I just stick to the Michelin Primacy MXV4?

I would stick with the Primacy MXV4,it comes with a 60K warranty the others have no mileage warranty at all.The Pilot Sport A/S look real good but tend to ride a little stiffer than the Primacy"s do.

Depends on your driving style and pocket book.

Apparently The Mich. Primacy line is on backorder. Any Ideas on sources for them Now?

the Pilot Sport A/S+ offers more performance and better steering resposne which unfortunately also means a some what stiffer ride. It is in no way harsh or overly firm. I find them to be quite civilized in their road manners. The Exalto offer less grip and performance but, they last a bit longer.

I like the softer ride of the primacy, but in a 215/55-HR16 I've got enough response to satisfy me and a quiet jar-free ride.

If you want better response, move up to a performance tire or better still a +1 wheel conversion and a QUALITY modest performance tire will give you a lot more performance with only a small penalty in harshness.

Since I cannot locate the Primacy tires (which were OEM) I've chosen the Pilot All-Season... they are more noisey and harder than I like on the roadster.
But maybe they will wear better than the poor 2 years & 24K miles like Michelin's Primacy...which were by then as bald as a baby's bottom but provided a nice ride until the tell-tells stated humming. Apparently the Michelin warranty is worthless anyway...zero pro-rated adjustment.

Also, Could you elaborate on what you meant by "Performance" tire? I sorta thought that is what I was running...

I just bought 4 a month ago from there and have been VERY please with them.

(Sorry Luke for the inconvenience message at the time....phones suck )

Doesn't the PSport AS+ have a 500 UTQG rating vs 240?

I've ran both (I think I had Exalto's on my 300E). I love the Pilot Sport A/S on my E430. I'd probably go as far as saying they're the best tire I've owned thus far...

Fantastic dry handling, solid in the rain...quiet, not harsh at all. Mind you, I'm not sure how the 'Plus' differs...perhaps it is a tad more stiff?

Pilot Sport Cup

I use 225/50/15 on the front of three Porsches
I have four 225/55/16 on a 1993 SL500
I put them on a 1980 300SD (mistake since it lives on Maui)

Two of the Porsches live a very hard life and I get 20K out of them.
I only put 20K on the SL so far but they look like they will make 30k+.

No warranty has not been a problem. The ride is OK and little or no tire noise. They are sticky and will slide first instead of breaking loose abruptly.

I use the Mich Harmony, because they have 14 inch rims, on the other two diesels and they look like they may last 50k.

Inflated by the manual...32 psi on front and 35 psi on rear using air not N gas.
They are not TOO hard, but to me they are noticeably harder than the Primacy. (My Titanium-augmented spine can feel every little bit)

2nd'd for best tire ever...

on my 3rd set, 2nd chassis (202 and 124), got north of 35k on the first 2 sets, rotated every 5k, regular pressure checks (35 in the 202, 32-33 in the 124)...
