Wheel question 300SD

I found some snow tires on wheels locally for a good price from a 1987 560SEL and was wondering if they'll fit on my 1981 300SD. They're the 15-hole Aluminum wheels and the tires on them are 195/65/R15. Thanks.

You may need spacers if you're going from the 14 inch bundts.

The correct size for the 560SEL or the 300SD? Just checked the new front tires I put on this Spring, 205/70/R14, same as the one remaining old rear tire, and my spare is a 195/70R14. I know this is kinda splitting hairs, but it'd be good to know if I'm running stock sizes or not.

So, with the tires on, I won't really know about the offset until I slap em on. I don't want to deal with spacers, so can I just try one on and check for clearances, or is it more complicated than that?

You know I'm somewhere on the same boat because I want to slap 7 X 15 15-hole 126 wheels with 205 65 15 tires onto my 300SD. No spacers needed?

Look at the back of the wheel for a stamp ET with a number after it. That will tell you the offset of the wheel. IIRC, 37 is the stock 14" bundt offset, any number larger than that may rub on your tie rod ends up front, and the trunk tub in the rear.

That should work, check the fronts for interference on the suspension (turn the steering wheel lock to lock) and bolt clearance on the rears, if they even reach.
Abadjay, I used spacers to get the wheels/tires to their proper location, with the 15 hole 15 inch flat bundts.
Not sure how a shop would align the front end without the wheels being in the factory location.

Cool, I've already got a stock wheel in the trunk I can use for reference. I was under the impression the ET number (sophmoric lingo acquisition) was on the inside of the wheel, under the tire. Well, that's good enough for me to go take a look. Thanks for the help.

i thought the 6 and 6.5 bunts had a 30 offset? pretty sure 30-33 is about the highest you should go on 123 and 126

why go with a tire size that will potentially require spacers?

having said that 205's are within spec for a 7" wheel, and the w126 cookie cutters are meant to go on a w126, so i don't see any reason you'd need spacers. unless you're using the cookie cutters off a w201/124 instead of the right ones for 126

i'm not sure that makes sense since at one point mercedes 'went from 14 inch bundts' to the cookie cutters, and didn't use spacers...

The tires and wheels will fit perfectly.

You do not need spacers.

My SD has the same setup with 215-65-15 tires.

If it fits one W126........it fits them all.

Okay, were obviously referring to different rims.

that's only true of the cookie cutters, not the bundts, which don't fit over 560se<X> wheels, where x can be L or C

I have the 15 hole 7X15s on mine with 215/60R15s. No problem at all. Would have went for 225 but I could not justify the extra $60 a tire.
