I like the Michelin MXV4 Energy Plus tires. Good all around tire and last winter was about 5 months of constant snow in WI. I never got stuck nor felt out of control. I've been told to get snow-tires, but so far have resisted.

I've read that their tire technology is somewhat old and they are expensive, but so far so good. Better than the Bridgestone's that were on it, plus it came fact. equipped with Michelins.

Despite what the critics say, the technology invested in the Michelin has been proven to last and deliver what is expected of its quality and standards.

But in a few years time, I believe most tyre technology would somehow be equal, if not there remains only a marginal difference.

It's a toss-up

While I like both tires alot, I guess my overall choice would be with Michelin. The Energy MXV4 tires are great but so are the Yoko equivalents. I had the Yokohama AVS dB on my DeLorean and they were great. Also have Yokos on my 300E and the 280SE. Here are the tires I have on my diffrerent cars:

'67 250SE Cabriolet: Michelin (don't remember the model--they're original, but have only 16K on them!)

'70 280SL: Firestone (didn't put them on, they were newly installed before I got the car)

'70 280SE: Yokohama Avid H4

'77 450SL: Michelin Energy MXV4

'79 6.9: Michelin X-One

'85 380SE: Michelin Energy MXV4

'89 420SEL: Michelin Energy MXV4 (will be replacing them with Yoko Avid H4s shortly)

'93 300E 2.8: Yokohama Avid H4

Thanks for the poll idea ymsin! I like the Michelin Energys but will not pay the $123.00 each (for H rated!) This would be close to $600.00 after mounting and balancing!!! The XGT H4 Pilots are too performance oriented for my W126 suspension. Sears carries the Yokohamas, I will go take a look but not buy from good old Sears. Still undecided!!!!

WHY is Michelin Energys almost double the cost of Yokos! Is this snob appeal on behalf of Michelin? Is the tire and technology that much better? I would love to find some old non-plus Energy Green X for say $90.00. But they are being phased out and usually only 205/60/15s.

Some local tire dealers have suggested the Rainforce or X-one (still $89.00 each) but I will only put at least an H rated tire, not a TR rated on my W126.

Thanks

I have trust and confidence in Michelin tyres for its quality and standards. More of it in what I cannot see, but feel good inside me.

But I do agree that for these goodwills, they are indeed overpriced.

This has to do with the branding of the tyre ....

IMO If all tyres were priced equally, I think Michelin would be completely sold out. Others may not agree.
