Pairing Up Yoks with Michelin or Bridgestones
I have almost come to the end of the life of my rear tires, The front ones are like the day they went on new. I need to buy new rear tires but I am now skeptical about going with Yokohama's (not that they were bad - excellent grip both wet and dry) but the wear has been horrible. I know I need to get with the program - that low profiles wear faster than normal but I need a bit more life than 6 months.
So my question is - will I suffer anything if I fit either Michelin or Bridgestone rear tires to pair up with the Yoks upfront or do I have to stay with Yokohama?

I suggest you stay with the same tires on all four corners. First the braking issue, the ABS can kick in pre-maturely due to different tire adhension property. Secondly the wet traction in curve issue, the car can slide and ESP kick in due to same as above.
How many miles do the front tires have accumlate? Perhaps you might want to rotate your tires sooner, so you can get a more even wear on all four corners next time. Good luck on your tire search Car Nut 99 E430 Sport |

I am almost ready to buy a set of Yokohamas AVS dbs. My first choice being the expensive Michelins Energy Plus. Another possible alternative being Bridgestone PE950s or Turnanzo. What type of Yokos do you have?

I believe you have the YOKO AVS Sport on yours, since you have 19", it should have 245/35/19 up front, and 275/30/19 in the rear if I am correct.
They do have a UTOG rating of only 180 AA A. I know someone who switched to 285/30/19s in the rear (I do believe a fender roll was required though) but used Bridgestone Potenza S-03 Pole Positions, TireRack has them for $275. Another alternative is a lil cheaper tire, like Falkens, from Discount Tire Direct and they have a treadwear rating of 360AA, and are for about $250 I believe. I run diff tire types alot, just because I know I need something with more teeth in the rear to prevent it from kicking out. As long as you know what you are doing, you should be fine. The AVS Sport up front with the Bridgestones in the rear shouldn't make much difference IMHO, and since rotation is out of the question, just make sure they are balanced and aligned to get the most.
