245/45/17 on a W124
I just bought some "new" tires and wheels for my '87 300E. A guy had some wheels that came off a new MB after a week of use. The wheels didn't quite fit on the front, the tires touched the shock towers. I had to get 1/2" spacers. I used them on the rear even though the wheels would have fit without them. The tires only rub the top of the rear fenders, going over bumps. Should I take the spacers off or should I raise the suspension in the rear?

I drove the car to go visit a friend. It rubs way worse than I would like. I took one of the rear wheels off to take off the spacer but it was stuck to the wheel. I'll try that again when I have more tools. I think I would like to raise the rear about an inch.

245 is really pushing it. I run 235/40/17 on my wagon and it is perfect. It touches very slightly on big dips in the road with 3+ passengers, but otherwise is fine.

I got the spacer off but the lug bolts are too long. My stock wheels have a steel insert in the lug bolt hole, making them thicker. I can't cut the bolts shorter because the threads don't go all the way to the seat. I need shorter lug bolts. How much bolt should stick out of the back of the wheel? I plan on ordering them from RAD USA Direct.

That size fits R129 SLs and W124 500Es...
Nothing should stick out the back of the rotor. |
