yes a decent shop won't charge you for the alignment if its straight already. the tire shop near me will do a check for free, and give you a printout showing the specs.

I wasn't talking about charging for alignment. I was talking about checking components for tightness. A previous poster said that they pay for alignment once a year and the main purpose is to see if there are any loose components. My response was to point out that many shops will check the components as a courtesy in conjunction with other maintenance work at no charge. If there are no loose components and no crash damage, then there's no reason to check alignment, at least on a Mercedes.

i don't want to bust your chops here, but what i was trying to say from the getgo is: if you drive alot, especially on crappy roads, its a good idea to take your car (assuming you can't or don't want to diy) to the shop to get the alignment and suspension checked and fixed if needed once a year. the shop will put it on the machine and check it all out. if its fine= no prob, no charge. if its out of spec or needs repairing, they will tell you and fix it if you want them to. the purpose of this i thought was obvious, it will avoid tires like what started this thread, and all the other benefits of having the suspension right and tight. does this not make sense?
