Not quite so easy with the tires still on them. Anyways, was curious what model they originally came from. Maybe an '80s 190E, 300SE or 380SL? Might put them on my '84 Euro 300TD.

Just weigh them and then remove the tire and weigh it and subtract.......just kidding.

There may be some identifying numbers on the rims.

I weighed my rims at UPS's digital scale. 9.9 lbs for the aluminum steeley look-a-like. 15.3 lbs for the Bundt alloys. That's 1/3 lighter!

My 240D was bought with aluminum rims and hub caps. I swapped them with a set of bundts I had but didn't notice a damn bit if difference.

I bought the wheels

Well I finally bought the Aluminium wheels off the 240. Sat my Wife, her Brother and I went to Moss Landing to "Phills Fish market" for lunch. I have been thinking about these wheels should I get them or not. I found the key for the 240 in the ignition, and kept it so no body would get the new wheel out of the trunk .
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-HTnHNz215c&feature=related

So we swung by the PNP which was about a mile from Phills, and grabbed the wheel. I was charge $7 for the "new" tire, and $4.99 for the wheel. I`ll get my $7 back when I return the tire.

Then yesterday I decided I better get the other 4 wheels. my Wife and I head back (now this is our 24th anniversary and I have my wife at PNP ) and pull the wheels. this was the nastyest looking old 123 I think I have ever seen. been sitting under Oak and Cypress trees probably the last 10 yrs. rotting leaves, green mold on the paint, and the interior hot damp musty wet smell.
Also this was the last day of the 50% off sale.

wheels had dirt, spider webs, weeds stuck on them, I used a stiff brush and was surprised these things looked pretty good. even though the insides had a ton of brake dust dump out .

Didn`t get charged for old tires, so only cost $23.89 with tax and inviro fees. surprised no core charge. so I figure these were $30.24 or $6.05 ea. not bad for 5 wheels.
The MB part# for these wheels is 123 400 13 02 they are 5 1/2" JX 14 H2 made by Lemmers 1496-2.

I scrubbed and washed one wheel and they look good. soon as I get them all washed up, I`ll go back to Big-O and swap them over.

Oh yeah, I paid for having my Wife go to PNP with me. I had to buy her a new freezer.

If the Bundts weigh a few pounds more than the base aluminum hubcap-rims. I wonder what is supposed to be their advantage? Styling? Making a 240D look like a more expensive W123?
The Bundts are often an inch or more wider than the hubcap-rims so they may have an advantage when fitting a wider-than-stock tire. So far as ride-quality is concerned, on my Bundt-equipped 240D the biggest improvement was when I replaced the POs old, rusty KYB shocks with Bilsteins.

I love the alloy/hub cap rims on my wife's wagon. I couldn't find china blue hub caps so I painted them myself, and unless you're in a show no one will notice I painted them.

Charlie,

Did you have to swap out the lugnuts as well?

I have one of these I have been wanting to use as a spare, but haven't had the chance to mock it up with the lugnuts from the bundts.

p.s. ...on your anniversary?! shame on you.

It probably takes me about 20 or 30 minutes to mask off a wheel cover for painting and they dont come out as nice as "factory" but not bad. I think they look "classic MB" if you dont get up real close

The non bundt aluminum wheel takes steelie lugs.

STEVO- I`ll get a picture of the 240, I did start another thread about getting it, then we took a trip to Portland, and I haven`t got back to posting the pictures and what I have done to it. Did get it for free though.

Be interesting what Big-O charges me for the swap.

JT20- I thought about taking the lugs, but didn`t. I did put them in the trunk, doubt any one will take them. They did look a tad bit shorter, so I better go back for the steele lugs.

two years ago on our 22nd, she was helping me pull a seat and dash out of a 85 380SE for Daw-Two.

That brake dust sure cakes on when the PO didn`t keep up on the cleanliness of his/her vehicle. I have been using some real fine steel wool and Marine Clean to get these thing to look good.
Usually when I rotate the tires, I wash the back sides. How many of you do that each time???

Yeah, getting the paint to look right and stick permanently is the biggest reason I haven't tried repainting when I needed matching hubcaps on one of my older Benzes. The first time I washed my first 240D, the garden hose flaked all the paint off one of my (obviously repainted) ivory hubcaps. And of course it was the best looking, matching hubcap on that car!
